Prune potted gardenias like this, and flower buds will keep emerging for an easy burst of blooms

The four-season gardenia has evergreen leaves, fragrant flowers and green foliage, with white blooms that are especially elegant and lovely. It is suitable for planting in advance, around ponds and along roadsides, and can also be used as hedges and ornamental plants, as well as for wearing flowers and floral decorations. Gardenia is a clump-forming small shrub, with side branches growing in threes, vigorous sprouting; without pruning, the twigs overlap, the plant form becomes disordered, branches interfere with each other, ventilation is poor, and nutrients are dispersed, so not only does the plant look unattractive, but flowering is also affected. Cut open this pot of gardenia, green flowers, and next year the flowers will increase greatly!
Shaping should be done at the seedling stage. Keep 3 branches, cut another one off from the branch, then cut clean the small side branches sprouting below 15 cm from the base of the 3 stems, release the side branches in the middle to sprout, and cut away the root-collar shoots so that the basal buds grow upward.
Cut off weak branches
Starting in mid-June, the flowering branches should be cut short. When the petals turn from snowy white to yellowish brown, do not let them hang on the branches, so as to avoid the plant becoming strong after flowering and consuming nutrients. Leave only 2-3 short internodes per branch; the basal side buds will sprout, and after topping the buds grow to 3. To prevent the 3 sections from causing all branches to be too close together in the sprouting of opposite side buds, 1-2 flower buds should be removed.
Do not pick flowers from the cut flowers at the second node.
In August, the new technique is to top again to prevent long growth. This is no longer pinching buds; let the spring buds develop fully and the side buds sprout, and from these buds flowers can form.
Buds can be cut on both sides.
Gardenia's light requirements are shade-tolerant, under the condition of dark green leaves, but flowering is poorer; it likes a warm and humid climate, and also tolerates slight cold (-3°C); it likes fertile, well-drained, acidic light loam, is resistant to drought and barrenness, but the plant ages, and it has strong resistance to sulfur dioxide. In terms of vigor, its sprouting ability is strong, and it is good at pruning and renewal.
