Lucky bamboo is a plant that is placed in water, and it has great ornamental value. When you first bring it home, lucky bamboo easily develops yellow leaves. The main cause of yellow leaves on lucky bamboo is a management problem, that is, poor management. Water-cultured lucky bamboo and soil-cultured lucky bamboo are essentially different, so the situations in which the leaves turn yellow are also different, and therefore they need to be treated separately.

The causes of yellowing leaves on water-cultured lucky bamboo: the influence of water. For water-cultured lucky bamboo, water is the foundation, and it is certainly also an important cause of yellowing leaves. If the leaves are turning yellow at this point, observe its root system to see whether it is rotting. If it is rotting, the rotten roots need to be cleaned away, and cooled boiled water should be used instead for growing it.

The influence of light. If the light is too strong, lucky bamboo cannot be exposed to strong light; when the light is too strong, the leaves will turn yellow. If it gets no light for a long time and does not have enough sunlight, the leaves cannot carry out photosynthesis and cannot form chlorophyll, so the leaves will also turn yellow. For yellowing bamboo leaves caused by either of these two reasons, the yellow leaves should be cut off and the plant placed in a comfortable, bright, indirect-light environment. After half a month, the bamboo will re-root.

Too much fertilizer causes the leaves to turn yellow. Observe the leaves: if the leaf surface is thick and large, lacks luster, and is uneven on the surface, it is caused by too much fertilizer. The opposite is insufficient fertilizer, where the leaves gradually turn yellow from light green. Just pay attention to the amount when fertilizing; after the amount is controlled well, the leaves will turn green again after a period of time.

What should be done if the leaves of soil-cultured lucky bamboo turn yellow? Overwatering can cause the leaves to turn yellow, and it is the most fundamental cause of yellowing leaves: new leaves do not grow, and old leaves turn yellow. You only need to take the bamboo out, put it in a ventilated place to dry, and after it dries, replant it back into the pot. Likewise, insufficient watering and overly dry soil can also cause the leaves to turn yellow. When watering, just make sure to water thoroughly.

If the bamboo is placed around TVs, computers, and home appliances, TVs and computers are also an important cause of yellowing bamboo leaves. The heat given off by computers and home appliances will cause the leaves to turn yellow; simply move the bamboo to a new environment. By all means, do not place lucky bamboo in the kitchen, as cooking fumes will also cause the bamboo leaves to turn yellow.
