Causes of Sunflower Leaf Withering and How to Fix Them

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
We need to treat it differently depending on the cause: if it is because they are planted too densely, it is best to plant just one per flower pot. If it is because of leaf blight, use carbendazim to save it. If it is because of insufficient nutrients, water and fertilise it on schedule. If it is because the seedlings have fallen over, it is very hard to save them, and you can pull them out.

1. Planted too densely

If the distance between each flower is too small, they will not get enough nutrients and will wither.

Solution: The best approach is to plant one per flower pot. It is sometimes more energetic in the morning and a bit wilted in the evening, which is fairly normal; by midday, do not water it, or you will harm it.

2. Leaf blight

If it is because of disease, round or nearly round spots will appear on its leaves, about 2-4 mm in diameter, greyish white in the middle with brown edges. Before long, they can expand to 5-20 mm, and spindle-shaped brown spots will also appear on the stems and leaf stalks. This disease is generally common in the Northeast region, and its pathogens remain in the soil and spread during hot weather.

Solution: Strengthen field care, and when raising seedlings choose robust ones, which can strengthen their ability to resist disease. In the early stage of the disease, you can spray carbendazim and the like to treat it. Normally, pay attention to field hygiene, clear away diseased plants, and loosen the soil.

3. Insufficient nutrients

If during its adaptation period the nutrients supplied to the leaves decrease, the leaves will wither from lack of sufficient nutrients, and during this period you must take good care of it.

Solution: Put it in a place with light, fairly clean air and plenty of water; if you have planted many of them, water and fertilise them on schedule, generally once every 5 days.

4. Damping-off at the seedling stage

If this disease occurs, it is mainly because the soil was not disinfected, and after planting the soil held a lot of water and the surrounding temperature was suitable for the pathogens to grow, so it was attacked.

Solution: In this situation it is generally very hard to save them. Carbendazim can only protect the ones that are not diseased; there is no way to help the ones that have already fallen over, so you must always be attentive for it to grow well.
