Can Bougainvillea be kept in the bedroom? A list of placement precautions
1. Is it toxic?
Growers can rest assured that this plant is non-toxic for ornamental purposes. However, if its stems are accidentally ingested by people or pets, it may cause poisoning and lead to diarrhea. Still, if you want to put it in the bedroom merely for viewing, it can be placed there. But we generally do not recommend keeping it in the bedroom, not only because of its toxicity but also for other reasons.
2. Reasons it is not recommended:
(1) First, this has to do with the plant's own habits. It is an especially light-loving plant, so the first thing we need to ensure is sufficient light. However, if it is grown in a bedroom, light conditions are not easy to guarantee. Some people may ask in reply, can it be placed in a spot in the bedroom with better light, such as near the windowsill? But after all, this still cannot satisfy its vigorous needs. For it, 10 to 12 hours of good light each day is the most beneficial. If it must be grown indoors, its flowering quality may not be very good and the quantity may also be small. Another aspect is ventilation; the ventilation conditions in a bedroom also cannot easily meet its needs.
(2) Next, consider its own size. Because the bedroom is a place for rest and sleep, it is best to place some smaller plants with a more delicate appearance. For example, "Asparagus fern", "spider plant", "orchid" and the like can create a warm, tranquil atmosphere. However, this plant is relatively large and takes up a lot of space, which can give people a feeling of crowding. So it is not very suitable to place in the bedroom.
