How to fertilize Aspidistra? Correct methods and precautions
1. Timing
Because the effect of fertilizer lasts a relatively long time, we cannot apply fertilizer again just a few days after applying it, as this will cause its roots to be scorched. Generally, applying fertilizer only once or twice a month is enough. As for the seasons, apart from winter when fertilization should be stopped, some flower fertilizer needs to be applied in spring, summer and autumn.
As for winter, we should move it indoors, and from this time on we should water it a little less, and fertilizing is absolutely out of the question, otherwise its roots can easily rot.
2. Specific operations
We know that this plant needs to be repotted every one or two years, and the soil for repotting needs to be a mixture of leaf mold, river sand and the like. Repotting is when fertilization is needed. Generally we use some crushed bone and cake fertilizer as a base, and after transplanting we place it in a relatively cool spot. At this time we should also water it thoroughly and spray some water on the leaves as well. After that, fertilizer should be applied once or twice every month, so that new leaves are more likely to grow and the whole plant will grow healthily more easily.
3. Precautions
① You cannot fail to apply fertilizer, otherwise it can easily grow slowly and become leggy; in addition, the leaves may also turn yellow or black. But the amount should also be controlled well at ordinary times, because once there is too much it will grow poorly. If the symptoms are milder it can still be saved; if the symptoms are more severe, you can only give up on this pot of plant yourself.
② If it is a variegated-leaf variety, we should apply less fertilizer; if there is too much, the spots on it can easily disappear.
③ For flower fertilizer, you can use decomposed human and animal manure, or buy it yourself from the market.
