Succulents establish 3 times faster: one rubber band makes them grow roots like crazy

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
March, April, and in the blink of an eye it is time to buy succulents again. But succulents need a certain amount of time to establish; if the roots are not strong during this period, the succulent will very likely fail to grow well. Today I will share some little tips for making succulent roots strong!

How do succulents grow roots quickly?

Online shopping is becoming more and more common now, and many flower lovers buy succulents online. But when they first arrive, the succulents often have weak roots or no roots at all, so it is best to do a root-promoting treatment before potting them up.

Steps:

1. If the succulent has roots, first use scissors to trim away some of the overly long, thin and weak roots. If it is a rootless seedling, you can skip this step.

2. After trimming the roots, spray the roots with some carbendazim solution, then place the succulent in a ventilated, shady spot to dry for about 1~2 days.

3. Find a transparent disposable cup and fill it halfway with clean water. Cover the cup opening with plastic wrap or plastic sheeting and secure it with a rubber band.

4. In the center of the plastic film over the cup opening, use a knife to cut a cross shape; do not make the opening too large.

5. Put the succulent roots into the small cut opening, taking care that the roots do not touch the water surface. Place the cup in a cool, ventilated place, and never expose it to strong sun.

6. In this way, after about half a month, the succulent will grow very sturdy roots; then plant it in a pot, and the establishment time will be especially short. You will never have to worry about succulents being slow to root again!

7. The soil for planting succulents should be slightly moist. Right after planting, do not expose them to the sun; just keep them in a bright, ventilated place for care.

Little tips for potting up succulents

1. Water less

When succulents have just been potted up, they need some time to adjust. At this time the leaves may shrivel, but do not rush to water; mainly misting is enough.

2. Signs that a succulent has established

If the succulent grows aerial roots, or grows new leaves, and the new leaves are plump, and when you gently lift the succulent with your hand you feel it has a grip, that proves the succulent has already established.

3. Tips just after establishment

A succulent that has just established should not be given more water in a hurry, or even moved outside for open-air growing. Take it slowly, gradually let it receive light, water less, and ventilate more, and the succulent leaves will become plumper and plumper, and it will not be far from showing its best colors!

That is all for the little tips on growing succulents.
