Grandpa spent decades on it, and after so long it no longer felt special, so Father began exploring something new. He found making bonsai quite fun, and went wandering on the mountain. One day, passing a small hillside, he discovered many pine trees; they looked good, so he began digging them up for bonsai.

Watching others make bonsai, the choice is to go for more unusual shapes; Father-in-law felt that he had chosen this pine tree, and the result was not bad. When potting pine seedlings, bring as much of the old soil as possible, and cut off the dead branches, fallen leaves and roots at the roots; the tree roots spread through the potting soil, and the soil is in firm contact with the roots, which is good for growth and survival.

The bonsai of a pine has an ancient and dignified air; common ceramic pots or glazed ceramic pots are used. The basin shape differs according to the tree: cascade style with an advanced tall cylinder pot, an upright trunk with a deep rectangular or oval pot, and for the shallow-pot stone style.

Pine bonsai is generally characterized mainly by pine, breathable black stone powder, river sand, building stone powder, coal cinders and the like. In addition, these cultural soils are very easy to obtain. After cultivation, the soil can be mounded over and the tree roots inserted, with a depth of about 3 inches being suitable.

The potting shape of a pine is based on wiring, combined with pruning. Wiring should be done during the dormant period, using brown ties, without exposing the main bends of the trunk and branches, keeping a natural posture. Small branches and leaves are pruned into sheet-like or hemispherical shapes, layered differently.

The craft of making pine bonsai is fundamental work; do every step carefully, and rot becomes magic. The creation of artistic bonsai is meant to give hard work and wisdom; only in creation can it be realized.
