Causes of Black Spots on Anthurium Leaves and How to Fix Them
1. Improper Watering
If black spots appear on anthurium leaves, it is very likely a watering problem. Generally, watering too frequently or not watering for a long time can both trigger this issue, and when there is too much water in particular, it can easily damage the roots and stems, causing black spots to develop.
Solution: Reduce or increase the frequency of watering according to the specific situation. When the potting soil still feels moist to the touch, there is no need to water; wait until it has dried out before watering again.
2. Too Much Fertilizer
Anthuriums also need fertilizing, but using too much fertilizer not only hinders their normal growth but may also change the chemical properties of the potting soil, making it unfavorable for the plant's growth. Over time, in such an unfavorable growing environment, the anthurium will naturally develop black spots on its leaves.
Solution: We need to replace the potting soil with fresh soil and apply fertilizer reasonably. If the situation is mild, some other substances can be used to neutralize the excess fertilizer.
3. Disease
Leaf spot disease is a plant disease whose symptom is the appearance of black spots on the leaf surface, which then gradually spread across the entire anthurium plant and can very likely cause it to decline rapidly.
Solution: This disease is caused by problems with its growing environment, so it is essential to improve ventilation regularly. If black spots have already appeared on the leaves, promptly cut off the diseased leaves as soon as the disease first strikes, which can prevent it from spreading. In addition, a specific treatment against leaf spot bacteria can be sprayed once a week; persisting with this for a period of time can effectively suppress the spread of the pathogen.
4. Points to Note
In addition to leaf spot disease, leaf blight and yellow spot disease can also cause black spots on anthurium leaves. In these cases, you can also choose to use specific treatments, and regularly clean the leaf surface with clean water.
