What to Do When Pyracantha Loses Its Leaves? Cause Analysis and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
If its leaves keep dropping, it may be because the environment changed and it has not adapted well. It could be that cold wind knocked the leaves off, or that it was watered too much, or that winter temperatures were too high. We need to take different approaches depending on the cause: if it is the first cause, you need to protect it from cold wind; if it is the second cause, you need to reduce the amount of watering; if it is the third cause, you need to adjust the temperature to below 10°C.

I. Causes

1. Knocked off by cold wind

If this plant in your home was bought only recently, it is very likely that the wind blew on it and caused leaf drop. Places that specialize in selling flowers grow it in greenhouses, where the temperature is relatively high and it is also very humid, which suits it very well. Once it is moved outside the greenhouse, its conditions have changed, so it will drop leaves.

2. Overwatering

It likes sunlight, and the soil needs suitable moisture; wait until it dries out before watering thoroughly. If water accumulates too much in the pot for a long time and the soil stays wet without drying, the roots rot easily, which leads to leaf drop.

3. Winter temperatures too high

In winter, the temperature must not be higher than 10 degrees, otherwise it will not enter dormancy, which will affect flower formation the following year. If the temperature is very high in deep winter and the humidity is also very high, it will drop leaves. It can tolerate temperatures of minus 16 degrees and can overwinter outdoors.

II. Solutions

1. If you want it not to drop leaves, first give it a suitable location. It is a sun-loving tree and likes sunlight very much. During its growth period, place it somewhere that direct sunlight can reach, so it can produce more flowers. Be sure to place it outdoors when it is flowering, otherwise it will attract insects.

2. Its roots are well developed, and it likes fertilizer and water, but these still need to be moderate; do not give it a lot of water. When it is flowering, do not let rain fall directly on it. Its growth period is relatively long, so it needs a lot of fertilizer for irrigation; in summer add phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and you can continue using it in autumn as well, which can make the fruit larger and more attractive.
