How to make a snake plant bloom and bear fruit
1. Soil:
Snake plants have no special requirements for potting soil; as long as drainage is good, everything else is fine. You can add more coarse river sand to the soil, plus some leaf mold, to make potting soil for snake plants.
2. Watering:
Snake plants do not need much fuss when it comes to watering either. Just wait until the soil surface turns pale and dries out completely before watering. Overwatering can damage the roots, especially when temperatures are low, and can easily cause root rot.
3. Light:
Snake plants are fairly shade-tolerant, so even if the light at home is not very good, the leaves will not turn yellow. But do not keep them out of the sun for too long either; about 2 hours of sunlight a day is enough.
4. Temperature:
Snake plants are quite tolerant of both cold and heat. As long as it stays above 5°C in winter and below 30°C in summer, they can survive. The best growing temperature is around 18-27°C.
5. Fertilizing
When repotting a snake plant, you can also apply some base fertilizer along the way. You can put some slow-release fertilizer at the bottom of the pot, then plant the snake plant; the fertilizer should be buried some distance from the roots, otherwise it can easily burn them.
6. Blooming and fruiting
If a snake plant blooms, it proves that the current growing environment is very suitable. After it blooms, pollinate the flowers with a cotton swab, and it will produce small orange-red berries that look very cute!
Do not think that just because snake plants are easy to keep, you do not need to pay them much attention.
As long as you give them care,
they can bloom and bear fruit,
giving you a full sense of accomplishment!
