Fuchsia dropping leaves: causes and solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Flowers with a rather unusual look, like a rustic village beauty, are much loved by everyone, and this flower is no exception. But many people notice it dropping leaves when they grow it and do not know how to solve the problem. Actually it is very simple: first we need to determine the cause of the leaf drop. If it is due to an unsuitable temperature, adjust it to between 15°C and 25°C. If there is too much water, pour it out promptly. If the light is too strong, move it to a shady spot. If it lacks nutrients, fertilize it promptly.

1. Temperature

We need to keep the temperature it sits in under control, because it actually has requirements for temperature. Generally speaking, the temperature for its normal growth is between 15 and 25 degrees, and beyond this range abnormal conditions are very likely to occur. For example, in summer, if the temperature has already reached 30 degrees, it will enter semi-dormancy, and in winter below 5 degrees it will do the same. In addition, it may also drop leaves.

So if we find leaves dropping because the temperature we give it is not suitable for it, we should adjust the temperature back to the range it can tolerate.

2. Water

Generally speaking, we should get the timing of watering right. In winter and when rain is fairly plentiful, it only needs watering once every two or three days, while in autumn or fairly hot weather it needs watering once a day. If it enters semi-dormancy in summer, then we must strictly control the water, otherwise leaf drop is very likely to happen.

If this phenomenon is caused by too much water or too little water, we can simply treat the cause. If it is because of fairly plentiful rain, we can put it somewhere without rain, and if that is not possible, then we should promptly pour out the water that has accumulated in the pot. If the waterlogging is more serious, we can sprinkle some crushed charcoal on the soil, and afterwards water not too frequently. Once it has dried out, we can water normally again.

3. Light

Because the environment it likes still needs sunlight, if there is relatively little light the leaves will drop. However, too much light can also cause this same problem.

If it has been scorched by the sun, we must move it to a shady place. Of course, while the heat has not dissipated we should not water it casually, otherwise there will be more serious consequences. In addition, we can take some measures to prevent it in advance. For example, during the day we can place it somewhere fairly ventilated and fairly shady, and at night we can put it under a tree. Besides that, we can also put it in a fairly large basket or box with some soft soil around it, so that it can be protected from the blazing sun.

4. Fertilizing

It also needs fertilizer. If the fertilizer is not sufficient, it will also drop leaves, so we need to apply fertilizer to it as well.
