How to Propagate Aloe vera (Chinese Aloe)? Detailed Guide to Common Propagation Methods
1. Division
Division is one of its propagation methods. This method is quite flexible in timing, because it can be done throughout the plant's entire growing season.
The specific method is to directly pull its stem base off the mother plant, or peel off the small plantlets that grow from its roots, and then plant them in soil. In addition, there is another way: use a knife to separate its seedlings from the mother plant, but we do not need to pull it out; simply let it grow in its original position for half a month, and it will form its own root system, after which it can be transplanted directly with the soil.
Yet another way is to peel it off and let it dry for a few days in a well-ventilated place, and once its wound has healed well, plant it out. After that, it needs watering.
After this operation, we need to strengthen its care, because it needs to recover from transplanting, so there are a few things we need to do, such as providing shade.
2. Leaf Cuttings
The other method is leaf cuttings. This method mainly takes advantage of one of its characteristics: the main stem without roots and the lower ends of its side branches will produce adventitious roots, and we only need to separate them, after which new roots can form.
We need to pay attention to the environment for cuttings. Generally the temperature should be kept between 25 and 28, and the soil temperature should be at least two degrees higher than the air temperature, so that roots grow faster. If the temperature is below 18°C, root growth will be greatly affected. At the same time, we must not let the soil be too wet, while relatively high air humidity is fine, generally between 80 and 90.
The specific method is to cut off a healthy, vigorous leaf during the growing season, disinfect it and let it dry for a few days, and once the wound has dried, insert it into fresh potting soil. Do not insert it too deep; just make sure it does not fall over. Right after taking the cutting, we should provide shade, and it can only be exposed to the sun once its roots have grown fairly well.
