Reasons and Solutions for Yellowing Leaves of Hydroponic Pennywort

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Hydroponic pennywort (Hydrocotyle vulgaris) is something many people want to grow, but many complain that its leaves turn yellow during cultivation. Today we will solve this problem. First, determine the solution based on the cause: if the problem is caused by water quality, replace it with clean fresh water and change it regularly afterward; if it is due to insufficient nutrients, add nutrient solution in time; if it is due to lack of light, move it to a place where it can receive light; if it is due to being too cramped and poorly ventilated, put it in a well-ventilated place; if the temperature is unsuitable, adjust it to between 10°C-25°C.

1. Water

Dirty water is a major cause, because once the water quality goes wrong, it easily causes its roots to rot, which in turn makes its leaves turn yellow. Generally, we should remember to change the water every three to five days in summer, and once every ten days to half a month in winter. Note that when changing the water, you should not remove all of it; we only need to replace two-thirds of it with fresh water. If a friend who has not changed the water for a long time finds the leaves turning yellow, then change it quickly.

2. Nutrients

Of course, it is also very likely that the leaves turn yellow because of too few nutrients, so when we change the water we should add nutrient solution to it, as only then can this symptom be alleviated. At this time we need to shake it gently, so that the oxygen contained in the water will also increase, and then the roots will grow much faster.

Excess nutrients are also a major influencing factor, because usually too much nutrient solution is added and not fully used by it, so some microorganisms will also grow in it, and at this time they will even compete with the plant for nutrients. On this basis, if we do not change the water, we will find that its roots are covered with sticky stuff.

3. Light

Light is one of the major influencing factors. We should usually put it in a place with light, otherwise it is very likely to have only yellow leaves. In winter we should put it outside the house, so that it can be exposed to light. Generally, the light at ten o'clock is relatively good, and the time span for sun exposure needs to be one hour. In addition, in summer it must not be exposed to too much sun, so just put it in a place where the sunlight cannot shine directly on it.

4. Ventilation

Ventilation is also something that needs to be done, because relatively good air is very helpful for its growth. Generally, if it is not placed in a ventilated and bright place, yellow leaves are very likely to appear.

5. Temperature

Temperature control is necessary, because it is afraid of cold, and only a warm place can let it grow relatively well, so we must determine its placement well, especially in the north, where the temperature is relatively low, and it cannot get through winter safely, so yellow leaves are also understandable. Therefore, we should make a cover to cover it and maintain sufficient temperature. In spring, it can be adjusted to between 10°C-25°C, which can let it grow better.
