What care methods are there after lily of the valley blooms?

Flowers eventually fade, and lily of the valley is no exception. After it has finished blooming its beautiful flowers for us, how should we care for it so it can recover? It is actually not difficult. After flowering, we first need to cut off its spent flowers and withered leaves, then provide it with growing conditions of 17-20°C, and finally make sure to replenish fertilizer and water in time, and it will recover quickly!

1. Flowering period

Its flowers stay open for a relatively long time, and including the fruiting period, it lasts a full three months, specifically from May to July.

2. Pruning

Pruning is essential, because the spent flowers after blooming can easily cause waste, so after it fades we should cut off the withered flowers and branches. At the same time, we should also check whether there are any abnormal flowers or leaves on the plant, such as insect-infested or diseased ones, and if there are, remove them promptly to prevent them from spreading.

3. Temperature

During flowering, we generally give it relatively good temperature conditions to make its flowers more beautiful and vivid, but after the flowers fade we easily forget about this issue. In fact, after flowering it needs good growing conditions to help it resist pests and diseases. For this reason, we had best give it growing conditions of 17-20°C, which can help it recover faster.

4. Fertilizer

We all know that flowering needs nutrients most, and usually the plant after flowering appears relatively weak because it consumed the nutrients accumulated over the long term during flowering. In this case, we should replenish fertilizer in time and give it more nutrients.

After pruning, you can begin to replenish fertilizer for it. Do not use fertilizer that is too concentrated; use diluted fertilizer, and do not water too much at one time, to avoid harming it. If the amount is not enough, you can appropriately increase the number of fertilizer applications.

5. Water

Because its preference is moisture, we cannot let it have a day when it craves water, especially after flowering. We must satisfy its water requirements. Under normal conditions, water it, and when necessary, also spray a little water around it.
