What to do if the rubber plant's leaves are wilting? Causes and remedies

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Rubber plants (Ficus elastica) are very popular to grow right now, because they stay evergreen all year round and have an attractive shape. However, sometimes their leaves wilt, so what should you do about it? First we need to find out what is causing the problem, then deal with it according to the specific situation: if it has just been repotted, it may be a normal phenomenon, so put it in a shaded spot and it will soon recover on its own; if the fertilizer was used improperly, then take care to avoid raw fertilizer and concentrated fertilizer in the future; if there is too much water, then change the pot and the soil, and if there is too little water, then replenish it in time.

1. Caused by repotting

If the leaves started wilting right after you repotted it, then we should not worry, as it may also be normal. At this time, do not let direct sunlight hit it, and water only a small amount, then put it in a ventilated place, and it should come back to life before long. But there is always an exception to everything: if it still has not improved after a week, then it may not survive.

2. Caused by raw fertilizer or concentrated fertilizer

During fertilization, if the fertilizer is not used correctly and raw fertilizer or farm fertilizer is used indiscriminately, it will burn its root system, so that it cannot provide water and nutrients to the leaves, and then the leaves begin to wilt. So when fertilizing normally, we should dilute it properly with water before applying it, so that the plant can grow normally.

3. Caused by watering

When watering, if you accidentally pour in too much so that the root system cannot absorb it all, it is easy for standing water to remain. This leaves the roots soaked in standing water for a long time, which easily causes root rot, and after the roots rot the leaves wilt along with them. At this point we should reduce watering and change the soil at the right time, so that the root system can breathe freely, and then the leaves will be lush green again. But you also must not go a long time without watering, as this will make the potting soil too dry, unable to meet the plant's most basic water needs, and the leaves will wilt as well. So when we water, it is enough just to make the potting soil slightly moist.
