How to care for a newly bought gardenia at home

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Gardenia is surely familiar to everyone, but many flower lovers report that they do not know how to care for it after buying it, and before long it wilts and loses its vigor. So what can be done to avoid this problem? It is actually not difficult. First, avoid repotting it. Second, water it thoroughly. Finally, pay attention to giving it a growing environment of around 20 degrees and a certain amount of light.

1. About repotting

Many flower lovers like to repot a newly bought flower into their own prepared soil and pot, but this practice is actually wrong. Generally speaking, the soil and pot the seller prepared for it are suitable for it, and there is no need for us to deliberately change them. Moreover, when the flower comes from the shop to our home, its growing conditions have already changed, and it has not yet adapted, so it will be relatively weak. If we then change its soil and pot at this time, it may not be able to take it, and thus some problems may appear.

Therefore, there is absolutely no need to repot it right after buying it. However, after a year, when the nutrients in the flower soil are mostly used up, then we should repot it.

2. About watering

Usually, flowers are transported by truck from the place of origin to all parts of the country. In order to keep them from lacking water during transport, sellers generally use clay soil with high water retention capacity. But this kind of soil has a drawback: once it dries out completely, it is very difficult to water thoroughly again.

So we need to water it in a special way: first prepare a washbasin, fill it with water, then place the flower pot into the water, just letting half of the pot be submerged in the water. Leave it like this for a while, waiting for the water to slowly seep in through the bottom hole, until the color of the surface of the flower soil changes.

3. About care

In order to grow it well, we need to give it suitable growing conditions. The first is light. Although it needs light, it must not be too strong, especially when it has just been bought and has not yet adapted to the new growing conditions. Once exposed to strong sunlight, it is very easy for it to be harmed.

The next is temperature. Generally speaking, giving it a temperature of around 16-20°C is fine. However, if it is winter, it must not be lower than 5°C, otherwise it will have adverse reactions.

Next is humidity, generally around 70% is suitable.

Finally, fertilizer. Flower fertilizer must not be too concentrated; it must be dilute, and too much must not be used at one time. In addition, fermented rice water can be used to increase the acidity of the flower soil a little.
