How Often Should You Water a Gardenia? Master the Correct Watering Method

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
How often to water a gardenia has long been a problem that puzzles growers, and it actually needs to be changed according to the different seasons. In spring we generally water once every two days, in summer generally once a day, in autumn generally once every three days, and in winter generally once a month.

1. Habits

This flower is quite fond of water. If it grows under water-deficient conditions for a long time, it will grow relatively slowly, its leaves will curl, and the quality of the flowers it produces will also decline somewhat.

In addition, it also has requirements for the humidity level of the surrounding air. If it is below 70%, it can directly affect its flowering, and if it is too high, it will also cause its flower branches to wither and rot.

2. Principles

Based on its growth habits, we need to follow some principles when replenishing water for it.

First, water replenishment must be timely. You cannot wait until the potting soil has completely dried out before remembering to replenish water for it. Because completely dried soil has no water for it to absorb, it will become water-deficient, making some normal physiological reactions difficult to carry out.

Second, water replenishment must not be too frequent. Although we may hear the saying that this flower will not die no matter how you water it, this is not correct. Because if too much water is added, water accumulation will inevitably occur in the potting soil, which may cause its root system to rot and then become withered and listless.

Finally, we also need to pay attention to not letting the air around it become too dry. Generally speaking, the humidity in our homes will not reach 70%, and to raise this number, we can use a spray bottle to spray some water mist around it. Doing so can ensure that it will not produce the phenomenon of dry and withered flower branches because the outside environment is too dry.

3. How Often to Water

Actually, this needs to change according to the different times.

① Spring: Just replenish water once every one or two days in the morning, but do not forget to spray water on it in the evening. Be careful not to spray it onto the flowers, otherwise it will cause them to rot. After replenishing water, remember to give it ventilation.

② Summer: Water must be replenished every day, because the weather is too hot and the speed at which water is evaporated is also very fast. If the frequency of water replenishment is not increased, it is very likely to cause the potting soil to completely dry out.

③ Autumn: Just replenish water once every one to three days. At this time, water consumption is not very great, so there is no need to replenish too much.

④ Winter: Just replenish water once every three weeks to one month. At this time, its demand for water is very low, so by no means should you replenish too frequently.

The above is only the general situation. Before replenishing water for it, we also need to pay attention to the specific condition of the potting soil. If it is still wet, you can hold off on adding water for now; if it has started to dry out, you can add water.
