How to grow Cymbidium goeringii so it blooms? A full guide to care methods
1. Flowering period
To see it bloom, you need the period from late January to early April; in many places it is February and March. Its blooming can last one month, so its flower-viewing season is fairly long. Its flowers are very elegant, and the fragrance is distant and subtle, seeming to be there and yet not, which is quite fascinating.
2. How to make it bloom
1. Environment
It is quite demanding about temperature and humidity, so it is best to place it somewhere where temperature, humidity and airflow can be regulated. You can put more water basins on the ground to increase the humidity in the room. It is best to place it on a shelf 60 cm above the ground, which allows ventilation and also prevents insects. It is best to also have equipment to maintain the temperature, so that by the time deep winter arrives its growth requirements can be met and it can pass the winter safely.
2. Potting soil
It has fleshy roots that hold a large amount of water, but it is very afraid of waterlogging. When choosing a pot for it, consider ventilation, air permeability and drainage, as well as appearance. You can use vermiculite as the substrate, or mix in perlite, place it in a windy, cool area, and mist the leaves, watering until water can flow out from the bottom of the pot.
3. Watering
It needs 70-90% humidity. If it is too dry, its development will be poor, and the leaves will be very small and thin, and rather dull. You can maintain humidity by sprinkling water, and the pH of the water is best around 6. If it is a high-temperature season, water vapor evaporates relatively quickly, so you can sprinkle water once in the morning and once in the evening, and water thoroughly once a week. In deep winter it temporarily goes dormant, so you can water it once every four or five days.
4. Fertilizing
When fertilizing it, the dose must not be too large, otherwise there will be fertilizer burn and it will die. From April to June it grows new shoots, and as the temperature starts to rise, you can use Lanjun Wang once every 7-10 days to help the roots develop and the shoots grow. After July it grows new leaves, and you can use Huabao No. 5, also once every 7-10 days. By September and October, you can use Huabao No. 2, once every ten days, to help it grow strong.
5. Light and temperature
The best humidity is 20-30 degrees, and the day-night difference should not exceed fifteen degrees. Light has a relatively large effect on its growth, and sufficient light can make the leaves very green and smooth. If in the high-temperature season it exceeds 30 degrees, you need to take shading measures for it; when it is below 5 degrees, you need to raise the temperature or bring it indoors. On rainy days, be careful not to let rainwater damage it, and if it grows too densely, prune it in time.
