How to grow potted Cymbidium goeringii? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions
I. Cultivation Methods
1. Soil
Use acidic soil to grow it, not alkaline soil. If using a special cultivation soil, it is best to use orchid mud, or mix rotten leaves and garden soil thoroughly.
2. Temperature
It needs a range of 15 to 25 degrees. From March to October, it needs 18 to 25 degrees; from October to March of the following year, it needs 10-18 degrees. In severe winter it can tolerate low temperatures of minus 5-8 degrees, but it is best to have 3-8 degrees. You can place it by a south-facing window, and the soil in the pot will not freeze.
3. Watering
The amount of water should be decided according to different stages, different growth stages, and different environments. In severe winter it stops growing, so watering should be controlled, generally once every 5-7 days, and the soil just needs to be slightly moist. If the soil has already dried out, wait until a sunny day and spray it with water close to the indoor temperature, but do not flood it.
4. Fertilizing
Do not use fertilizer in large doses; it must be fully decomposed first. You can use organic fertilizer or a special fertilizer. When it grows flower buds, keep only the healthiest and best-looking bud and cut off the rest. You can also spray some fertilizer specially for flowers, which can help it become more beautiful and extend the flowering period. After the flowers fade, remove them rather than waiting for them to fall naturally, so as to reduce the loss of nutrients and make flowering easier the next year.
5. Pests
It is relatively prone to pests, such as scale insects. During care, ensure ventilation and air circulation, and the soil should have good drainage. If it gets diseased, you can treat it with thiophanate-methyl. If the situation is especially serious, replace the soil and pot.
II. Precautions
1. It does not need much fertilizer and should be grown with light feeding. If it is not robust, do not use fertilizer in large doses, and do not wait until it is very dry before watering.
2. In severe winter, indoor heating in the north is not very good for the growth of its flower buds, so it is best to move it to a balcony outside the house. If it is grown in the south, with high temperature and high humidity, it does not need many nutrients, has a very high sprouting rate, and can sprout three or four times a year.
