What to Do When Pennywort Drops Its Leaves? Causes and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Many plants drop their leaves, and the reasons for leaf drop are incredibly varied. Some plant lovers feel heartbroken over this, yet are at a loss because they do not know how to fix it. Today we will explain what to do when this happens to pennywort.

1. Hydroponics

It can be grown in two ways, hydroponically and in soil, which means the reasons for leaf drop in pennywort may differ between the two methods. Let us first discuss the hydroponic situation:

Generally speaking, hydroponics has fairly high demands on water. If there is a problem with our water quality, it may cause the issue mentioned above, so we need to choose high-quality, pollution-free water. If conditions do not allow, tap water is fine too, but it needs to be set out in the sun beforehand before use.

We also need to pay attention to the pH of the water. Generally speaking, we cannot make it perfectly neutral; slightly acidic or slightly alkaline water is both acceptable.

In addition, we should also pay attention to the frequency of water changes and the amount of water. It should not be too fast or too slow, but should be determined according to the specific season and the condition of your own plant. Generally speaking, in summer we need to change the water every three or four days, while in winter changing it once a week is also fine. The water level should not be too low or too high; about half of the bottle mouth is good. At this point we do not need to replace all of it at once, just replace one third of it with fresh water.

It also has a fairly high fondness for light, so in summer we need to give it four to five hours of light, otherwise it will easily cause the leaves to drop. In winter, if there is not much light, we can use artificial light such as fluorescent lamps.

Finally, we need to give it fertilizer appropriately, otherwise insufficient nutrients can also easily cause it to drop leaves.

2. Soil culture

Next, let us talk about the soil culture situation:

Grown this way, it will grow very quickly, which requires us to meet some of its growing requirements; failing to meet these requirements will very likely cause its leaves to be in an abnormal state.

First, we need to give it plenty of water, because water is a very important influencing factor. Long-term water shortage will cause poor development and lead to leaf drop. The simplest way to deal with this situation is to water it.

In addition, exposure to strong sun can also easily make it drop leaves, so we should put it in a shady place, so that it can recover from the leaf-dropping state. However, although it cannot be exposed to strong sun, it still needs light. It is best to let it receive four hours of light every day, and this light must not be direct. If there is no light, you can also give it a fluorescent lamp.

Finally, we also need to give it a certain amount of fertilizer, otherwise leaf drop due to insufficient fertility is also common, so when it is growing relatively fast we should appropriately increase its fertilizer. Suppose it drops leaves because of a lack of fertilizer; we can solve it by replenishing it.
