Desert Rose - just seeing this name instantly draws us in and fills us with a strong desire to grow it. But when growing it, root rot can happen all too easily if you are not careful. So what should you do? Let's take a look together.

1. Caused by overwatering

From its name alone, we can clearly see that it is extremely drought-tolerant, so there is no need to water it too much when growing it. If you give it too much water, it will easily develop root rot.

Solution: Once root rot occurs, take it out of the potting soil, examine it carefully, cut away the roots that have already rotted and turned black, then replant it in fresh potting soil and control watering. If you do not have enough potting soil, you can put the old potting soil in the sun to dry out some of its moisture, then mix in a small amount of fresh potting soil.

2. Caused by potting soil that is not loose and breathable

We all know that every plant breathes through its roots. If the sand and gravel used in your potting soil are too heavy and the density is too high, it will directly affect its roots and prevent them from breathing normally. If this is then combined with humid spring weather, it is no wonder root rot occurs.

Solution: In this case, we likewise need to promptly cut away the rotted roots and also replace the potting soil. Generally, the best mix is equal parts peat soil, perlite, and nutrient soil. After that, apply an appropriate amount of phosphorus fertilizer to ensure normal growth.

3. Caused by mistakenly using chicken manure

When growing it, if you accidentally apply chicken manure to it, it will easily become moldy and produce bacteria. The bacteria then flow down to the roots, and when they meet moisture, they trigger root rot.

Solution: In this case, we also need to remove the rotted roots and replace the soil. After that, pay attention to the use of flower fertilizer and do not use chicken manure again.
