When is the blooming season for white magnolia? A detailed guide to its flowering time

I believe there is no one who does not like the white magnolia (Magnolia denudata). When the flowering season arrives, the whole tree is covered with white blossoms, beautiful and fragrant, and wonderful to admire. Because of this, many plant lovers rush to grow one at home and care for it carefully so that it will bloom as early as possible. But what many people do not realize is that quite a few friends have grown one for a long time without ever seeing it flower. So when exactly does it bloom? Let's take a look together.

1. When does it bloom

It usually blooms from March to May each year. But if you live in the warmer south, it can bloom from December of the current year to January of the following year. And the further south you go, the earlier the flowering period. So the flowering time depends on the region.

2. How to make it bloom more

1. Light must be suitable

It loves light, so let it enjoy as much sunlight as possible, especially during the growing season, giving it at least 6 hours of light a day. Never keep it in a shaded spot, otherwise its leaves will lose their luster, it will bloom very little or not at all, and the branches it grows will be thin and weak, which is extremely bad for its growth. But in the high heat of summer, you can shade it appropriately to prevent strong light from scorching the plant, and at the same time keep sprinkling water on the ground and on the leaves to lower the air temperature.

2. Water must be suitable

It craves water but fears waterlogging. Never let the potting soil become too wet, otherwise the leaves will turn yellow and withered, or the roots may even rot and the plant die. But do not let the potting soil get too dry either, or its leaves will curl. So when watering normally, water only when the soil is dry and stop when it is moist, and make sure the water temperature and soil temperature are similar, with no sudden cold or heat. Generally, water lightly in spring and autumn, water in the morning and evening in summer, and water once every 10 days in winter. Remember this pattern and it will bloom more.

3. Fertilizing must be suitable

Although it likes fertilizer, it fears concentrated fertilizer. Once the concentration is too high, it will burn the roots and have the opposite effect. Just remember to apply thin fertilizer frequently, and it will have plenty of nutrients and thus bloom more.

4. Remove leaves and pinch buds appropriately

Each year around the period from the Spring Equinox to Qingming, move it outdoors. After 2 to 3 days of adapting to the outdoor conditions, you can remove the old leaves from the plant, leaving just a few young leaves. After it finishes blooming, remove leaves again and pinch the growing tips appropriately, so that more side branches sprout and the number of flowers increases.
