Don't Throw Away Dying Flowers - Here's a Trick to Get Them Blooming Again in 2 Months
Rescuing the ZZ Plant
The ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) has a very auspicious name, but if its leaves turn yellow, the whole pot loses its vitality. Let me teach you how to save it!
1. If there are many yellowing stems but the roots haven't rotted, you can simply cut the stems short, leaving only 4~5 cm above the soil surface.
2. After pruning, you'll be able to see changes in the ZZ plant every day. In about a month, it will send out many emerald-green new leaves.
3. If the cut stems still have green leaves on them, don't waste them - stick them into well-aerated soil. Keep the soil moist and avoid direct sun exposure.
4. After about 3~4 weeks, the ZZ plant leaves will grow bulbous rhizomes and long fibrous roots. Then you can transplant them into a larger pot. The survival rate is very high.
Rescuing Cyclamen
One of the most common problems when growing cyclamen is root rot and black rot on the flower stems. You can try the following method to treat it.
1. The main causes of cyclamen rot are overwatering and poor ventilation. First, take the cyclamen out of its pot and let it air out in a well-ventilated spot.
2. Using a sterilized knife, cut away the rotten parts of the corm. Apply some plant ash to the wound - this prevents infection and helps the wound heal faster.
3. After treating the roots, replant the cyclamen in a pot. It's best to use fresh, well-aerated soil. It will quickly fill out the pot again.
Rescuing Succulents
Succulents can't tolerate waterlogging, or their roots will easily rot. Their leaves also often attract pests, such as scale insects and root mealybugs.
1. Remove all the leaves near the base, keeping only a few layers of tender leaves toward the top, and cut off the rotten roots. Then soak the entire plant in carbendazim solution for 10 minutes, take it out and let it dry for 1~2 days.
2. Once the succulent is completely dry, plant it in brand-new soil, because old soil contains pathogens and insect eggs.
3. After replanting, water sparingly. After one month, you can resume normal care. Make sure there's good ventilation and plenty of sunlight, and it will gradually grow new leaves.
That's all for the flower rescue tips.
