How to propagate desert rose? A detailed full analysis of propagation methods
I. Cuttings
This method is usually chosen in spring and summer for propagation. First, find some 1- to 2-year-old branches, with the top branches being the best, then cut them into several sections, each about 10 cm long. After cutting, you will notice sap flowing out; note that the sap is toxic, so wash it off with clean water, then place them in a shady spot to dry. After that, you can use clean river sand as the substrate and insert the branches into it. During the cutting period, be sure to control the amount and frequency of watering; just keep the substrate slightly moist, and provide some shade from the sun. Generally, they will take root after 3 to 4 weeks.
II. Layering
It can be propagated by layering, which has a very high survival rate and is also very simple in steps. Usually, we can use this method during the plant's growing season, with spring and summer being the best times. When layering, first use a knife to make a wound at the spot where it will root, then cover the wound with soil, then find a transparent plastic film to wrap around it, and tie both ends tightly. After that, once the roots grow to the film, you can cut it off and plant it.
III. Grafting
When grafting, it must not be done during the rainy season; spring is the best, so that we can see it bloom quickly. Usually, the scion is best at a length of 7 to 10 cm. After grafting, it needs to be placed in a dark place. If the grafting is successful, then after 10 days, once the cut wound has recovered, place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight.
IV. Sowing seeds
It actually does not bear fruit very easily, and usually requires artificial pollination to complete. After its fruit ripens, it will split open naturally, so the seeds are easily lost. Therefore, we must harvest before it splits open. After the seeds are collected, we should sow them as soon as possible; if storage is needed, it should also be kept in a cool, shaded place as much as possible, otherwise the seeds will easily lose their ability to grow.
