How to grow Michelia alba? Detailed guide to cultivation methods and precautions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Michelia alba (white champaca) has an extremely strong floral fragrance and charming flowers, so it is deeply favored by people, who often keep it as a bonsai indoors for viewing. But there are many things to pay attention to and techniques when growing it. What are they? Let's take a look together.

I. Cultivation methods

1. Selection of potting soil

If you are growing Michelia alba at home, when choosing potting soil, try to use loose, breathable soil, preferably rich in humus. Then choose a breathable clay pot, purple clay pot, or a plastic pot with more small holes at the bottom, put the soil into it, and the potting soil is ready.

2. Repotting at the right time

When repotting, we should choose the pot size correctly according to its crown and tree age, so that it can grow vigorously. When repotting, it is generally done when the potting soil is slightly dry. First slowly turn the pot upside down, hold the pot with one hand, grasp the plant with the other hand, then take it out and put it into the new pot.

3. Suitable growing location

From March to April each year, we can move it outdoors to receive sunlight. When the temperature is higher in summer, appropriately set up a shed for shade, so that it can both get the morning sun and well avoid the harsh afternoon sun, preventing sunburn.

4. Watering

It is very afraid of wetness and is not very tolerant of drought, so water it appropriately in normal times. Each time you water, water it thoroughly, just keeping the potting soil moist; never water it every day. In addition, after each rain, promptly drain the accumulated water in the pot to prevent root rot.

5. Suitable temperature

It is very afraid of cold, so if you do not live in the south, in winter you should move it indoors for care as much as possible, with the temperature kept at least above 5°C. If the high summer heat arrives, cool it down promptly as well, so that it can grow normally.

6. Suitable light

It extremely loves sunlight. In summer, we can place it in a shade shed, lift the curtain every morning to let it receive the sun before 9 o'clock, and then cover the curtain. If you move it indoors to grow, also place it in a spot with plenty of sunlight.

II. Precautions

When growing it, you will always encounter some pests and diseases, so in normal times try to give it more ventilation, control the amount of watering, and loosen the soil appropriately, so as to prevent diseases. If pest damage accidentally occurs, spray with pesticide promptly to suppress the pests early.
