When Does the Cockscomb Flower Bloom? A Detailed Guide to Its Blooming Period

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Take a look at its pictures - doesn't it look just like rooster combs? That's right, this is exactly why it got its name. It has strong ornamental value and is grown all over the world. What we mainly admire, of course, is its flowers. So let's find out when it blooms.

1. The blooming period of this plant

It is an annual plant. Therefore, it grows relatively fast. Sometimes it can bloom just two or three months after sowing. Usually, it blooms in summer and autumn, specifically from July to October. However, its blooming period is also related to the region.

What mainly affects it is the temperature. Because the climates of the south and the north differ considerably, its blooming period varies accordingly. In addition, its blooming period is also connected to how early or late it is planted. So autumn is only a rough timeframe. Under different conditions, there will be differences.

2. Care during the blooming period

(1) Light: During the blooming period, ensuring sufficient light is very necessary. Otherwise, its flower spikes will be very small, and the blooming quality will be poor.

(2) Temperature: Suitable temperatures also have a considerable influence on its blooming. The specific range is between 18 and 28 degrees. If the summer temperature is too high, or the autumn temperature is too low, adjustments must be made.

(3) Fertilizer: Normally, this plant already has requirements for fertilizer, let alone during the blooming period. Before and during the blooming period, compound fertilizer needs to be applied once or twice. In addition, note that fertilizer containing the N element should be applied as little as possible. Otherwise, it may easily grow leggy, producing only stems and leaves. In mild cases, this hinders blooming; in severe cases, it may lead to lodging.

(4) Water: Do not water too much. Especially after blooming, water needs to be controlled. However, if the weather is relatively dry, you can water a bit more appropriately. On rainy days, drainage is needed.
