"Life Is a Power Plant" Energy Education Course Now Enrolling
1. Activity Introduction:
In 2016, the Homemakers United Foundation (hereinafter referred to as "the Foundation") established a "Community Energy Education Base" as a place to share everyday electricity-saving information, further embedding the concept that "saving electricity is invisible power generation" into people's daily lives.
In 2017, the Foundation extended its energy education outreach into communities. Through a series of energy-saving education programs, it deepened public understanding of renewable energy, and by combining hands-on operation, use, and related courses, enabled more people to easily use renewable energy in their daily lives.
The August 15, 2017 blackout highlighted Taiwan's electricity problems. Saving electricity is the most cost-effective form of power generation, and it can further collectively reduce everyday electricity consumption while allowing clean energy in daily life to be sustainable and inexhaustible. Therefore, this project is titled "Life Is a Power Plant," hoping to lead more people to use energy reasonably together.
98% of Taiwan's energy is imported, yet Taiwan's per capita electricity consumption ranks 12th in the world, and household electricity accounts for about 60% of summer peak electricity use. Therefore, reducing household electricity consumption is an urgent task for Taiwan.
However, because many people have gradually lost interest in the familiar refrains of energy saving and carbon reduction, the Foundation offers creative ways to save electricity in daily life while maintaining quality of life. Therefore, this project will provide easy-to-practice carbon-reduction tips for daily life, lead people to save electricity together in their daily lives, and supplement this with lectures to share energy knowledge and jointly consider possibilities for action.

2. Course Objectives:The 2018 "Life Is a Power Plant" energy education project, in addition to continuing to promote the concept of saving electricity, will go a step further by providing ways to generate power in daily life. Through courses that can be practiced in everyday life, it will transform difficult energy issues into actions everyone can participate in, along with hardware use and courses. It will help more people understand how to reduce the use of conventional electricity while maintaining quality of life, and thereby reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

| 3/21 | Refrigerator Organization Techniques | After Lunar New Year, the refrigerator is always exploding, and do you often fail to find ingredients in it, only to throw them away once found? The refrigerator is the only appliance in the home that runs 24 hours without being unplugged, and opening the door is when electricity use peaks. Through refrigerator organization, let us reduce food waste, save time, and save even more energy. | 3/21 Refrigerator Organization Techniques (Click Me) |
| 4/25 | Plant a Curtain of Coolness | After June begins and midsummer arrives, electricity use peaks, and air conditioning is the main cause. Let us plant a curtain of coolness in March-April to reduce summer air-conditioning demand. | 4/25 Plant a Curtain of Coolness (Click Me) |
| 5/23 | Everyday Electricity Saving + Energy-Saving Base Visit | Besides turning off lights when leaving a room, what other energy-saving tips are there? Before entering the summer of power shortages, let us first review household electricity-use habits. | In preparation |
| 6/20 | Does Brightness Matter? Lighting and Energy Saving | Do you know how electricity is generated? Lighting brightens our lives, but does overuse instead cause trouble for the environment and our lives? Teacher Nian uses real examples to tell you what can be done better. | In preparation |
| 7/25 | Low-Carbon Green Building: Visit the Greenpeace Office | How can we effectively create a space that is well ventilated, full of light, generates its own power, and saves energy? Let us witness a low-carbon green building on site! | In preparation |

| 8/22 | Generate Power with Your Own Hands | Do you know how electricity is generated? Let us not only tell you the principles of electricity, but also take you hands-on to build your own micro power generator. | In preparation |
| 9/19 | Are Energy and Air Pollution Irreconcilable?! | The increasingly serious air pollution problem has everyone worried, and how can elderly people and children who are more sensitive to air survive? Although the government has announced that the energy transition should move toward low-carbon power generation, there is still a certain proportion of coal-fired and gas-fired power generation, so what should be done about the air pollution problem? There is also a certain energy demand in daily life. Does that mean we can only choose one between energy and air pollution? | In preparation |
| 10/24 | Understanding Taiwan's Renewable Energy | What renewable energy does Taiwan have? What are the principles behind generating power from these renewable energies? Is it really possible for us to transition in the future to a life centered on renewable energy? | In preparation |
| 11/21 | Citizens Generate Power | What exactly is the energy transition that the government keeps talking about? What does the share of renewable energy have to do with me? Have you ever thought that you could also be the director of a power plant? Many renewable energy developments abroad actually rely on the power of citizens. Beyond overseas cases, what channels for participation exist domestically? Let us take a look together. | In preparation |
※ Before or after the course, volunteer sharing of practical experience in saving electricity and low-carbon living may be arranged according to the course content.
