What to Do If a Hydroponic Peace Lily Gets Root Rot? Cause Analysis and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This plant is very beautiful and elegant. Not only is it easy to keep alive in soil, but it is also very easy to grow hydroponically. However, being too hands-off can also cause its roots to rot. Nami, if this unfortunate situation happens, what methods should we use to solve it?

I. Causes

There are actually three reasons why its roots rot:

1. There is a problem with its water. It may be that there is too much nutrient solution. We need to remember that when it is first rooting, we cannot add nutrient solution, otherwise the water quality will have problems. It may also be that the water itself is not up to standard and contains some harmful substances, which have a negative effect on it.

2. Water level problem. Note that its roots cannot all be placed in the water, otherwise it will lack oxygen, and the roots will naturally have problems.

3. Bacteria have appeared in its container. When it is attacked by some erosion, this kind of root rot will occur.

II. Solutions

There are several steps to solve it, but first we need to confirm exactly how badly its roots have rotted. If it is mild, with only the bottom rotted and most of the roots still white, then it can be saved. If the rot is relatively severe, with only a few roots growing well, most of it can still be saved. But if all of them have rotted, and even the parts connected to the stem are damaged, then there is an 80 percent chance it cannot be saved.

Under conditions where it can be saved well, we first need to wash its rotten roots clean and cut them off, then keep the white roots, disinfect them after replacing them, and let them dry. Then cut off some of the bad leaves as well. After that, fix the roots in place. If the water has just been changed, you can also add vitamin C to help it relieve the stress a little. In addition, we can drip some nutrients into it. If too much nutrient solution has been added, this step can be skipped. Finally, keep it in a shaded place, and the frequency of changing the water is once every three or four days. If there is green moss around it, be sure to remove it.
