What to Do If a Hydroponic Peace Lily Won't Bloom? A Full Breakdown of Causes and Solutions
1. Unreasonable Lighting
The peace lily plant tends to prefer shaded areas, and indirect light alone is enough for it, at an intensity of 60 percent. If it goes without enough light for a long time, it will become weak, which is bad for blooming; if the light intensity is too strong, the leaves easily turn yellow, hindering growth and also having a negative effect on blooming.
Solution: You can regulate the light for it so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight and receives scattered light instead. During hot periods, be careful not to let direct sunlight scorch it.
2. Inappropriate Temperature
It can tolerate high temperatures, but its tolerance for severe cold is not strong. If it is too cold, it will not bloom normally. For it to bloom on schedule, the surrounding area must stay above 20°C, but it should not be too high either; above 35 degrees will hinder its growth.
Solution: Its most suitable conditions are 20-28 degrees, so when growing a peace lily in water, the temperature must be well controlled.
3. Water Quality Problems
When grown in water, its container easily grows green algae, which not only looks bad but also consumes the oxygen in the water. If the water is not changed frequently, it is bad for its growth and blooming.
Solution: In summer, you must change its water once a week, and in the depths of winter, change it once every ten days to half a month. When changing its water, you should also wash off any attached matter, remove dead old roots, and clean the bottle thoroughly. The water only needs to cover one-half of the roots, at most two-thirds; the rest of the roots can be exposed to the air.
4. Insufficient Fertilizer
Generally speaking, it grows relatively fast and needs a lot of fertilizer. If you do not fertilize it for a long time, it will not grow very healthily, and of course it will not bloom.
Solution: Each time you change the water, you can add some special nutrient solution for it. During the bud stage, you can sprinkle potassium dihydrogen phosphate on it, about two or three times is enough.
5. Unsuitable Humidity
It needs relatively high humidity; if it is too dry, blooming will be affected.
Solution: For a water-grown peace lily, to prevent its leaves from drying out, you should regularly spray its leaves with water to add humidity. Doing so also makes the leaves grow more glossy.
