What to Do If a Mock Orange (Aglaia odorata) Has Root Rot? Causes and Remedies Explained in Detail

This is a very beautiful flower, and many people grow it; a friend of mine also keeps a pot of it. But due to improper care, its roots rotted, and they did not know how to handle it. So what exactly should be done at this point?

1. Water

Improper watering is actually the main cause of root rot. Although it likes water, this does not mean you can water it as much as possible. Generally speaking, if you water it especially heavily, it easily leads to root damage.

Solution: At this point we should take it out, then place it in a sunny spot for about half an hour, after which we need to replace the soil; if convenient, a rooting agent can be used. In addition, we need to note that when the temperature is relatively high, we cannot only water the soil, but can also sprinkle water on the leaves, though this operation needs to be done before sunset. If it is because it is kept outdoors and gets too much rain, then we need to place it at a slant, so that there will not be too much water.

2. Soil

Besides water, it may also be that problems with the soil cause its roots to fail to hold up, thus damaging them. Generally, this may be due to problems with the pH level, or because drainage and aeration are less than ideal.

Solution: At this point we had best replace the soil for it and choose soil suitable for it.

3. Fertilizing

Fertilizing can affect its roots, because fertilizer comes into direct contact with the roots, and once applied improperly it will cause damage to its roots. Solution: During normal care, you must not provide it with alkaline fertilizer, otherwise problems will appear; if this has already been done, then acidic material must be added to neutralize it. In addition, the fertilizer we provide must be decomposed, otherwise during its fermentation process it can easily release heat and thus harm its roots. Also, using too much is not good either, because after too much fertilizer the roots will not be able to hold up. Generally, using some diluted fertilizer once every ten-plus days is enough.
