How to grow and care for the egg rose (Aeonium)
1. Substrate
For the growing substrate, you can use relatively small granular peat mixed with larger granular materials such as coal cinder, ceramic pellets and small stones, mixed at a ratio of 1:5.
Place some larger granular stones at the bottom of the prepared pot first. However, because this plant's roots are quite fine, larger granules will hinder root growth, so the middle layer is best made up of granules no bigger than 3 mm.
To eliminate bacteria, soak it in water before planting, then sterilize it at high temperature for 20 minutes.
2. Water
To control the amount of watering so that the soil layer does not become waterlogged, you can prepare a pot with holes for it before planting, then slowly immerse the pot in a slightly larger container filled with water, letting the liquid reach two-thirds of the pot's height. Soak for a few seconds and then take it out, keeping the soil layer dry year-round, which helps prevent the plant's core from rotting.
3. Ventilation
When growing this plant, ventilation in summer is essential. For example, open the windows during the day, and if you do not use air conditioning at night, place it by a window that is open all day. With a good ventilated environment, its roots will be healthier.
4. Light
This plant likes sunlight quite a lot. Normally it is best placed on a south-facing windowsill, and growing it outdoors is even better.
