What to Do When a Green Diamond (Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana') Loses Its Leaves? Cause Analysis and Solutions

It is a plant that has become quite popular in recent years, but when kept at home, its leaves may keep dropping due to improper care. How should this problem be solved? First, we need to analyze the causes and treat the root of the problem.

1. Insufficient water

This plant likes a moist environment and itself has a relatively high water requirement, so once it suffers from a lack of water, its leaf tips or leaf edges will gradually dry up, and some old leaves will slowly turn yellow and then drop, following a trend from bottom to top. At this point, what we need to do is promptly replenish enough water and not let the lack of water happen again.

2. Lack of light

Although this plant likes to grow in places without too much sunlight, this does not mean it does not need light. If it lacks the nourishment of light for a long time, then its leaves, unable to get enough light to satisfy their needs and unable to effectively form chlorophyll, will gradually turn yellow throughout the whole plant and then begin to drop. If light can be replenished in time, this problem can be solved.

3. Excessive fertilizer

Once this plant receives a fertilizer concentration beyond its needs, the tips of its new leaves will show a dry brown color, and its leaves will also be thick and fleshy yet lack luster, feeling uneven and not smooth to the touch, while old leaves will become scorched yellow and then fall off. At this point, we should immediately stop adding fertilizer and then wash the fertilizer away.

4. Daily care

It likes the surrounding ambient temperature to be around 20°C, because at this temperature it grows relatively fast, but the temperature must absolutely not be lower than 10°C, otherwise it will cause serious consequences. And because it likes a moist environment, the air humidity must be maintained at a certain level.
