What are the signs that a clivia is about to bloom?

The clivia (Clivia miniata) is a flower that came about through mutation, so the opening of its flowers is also quite magical. But take roses: no matter how the surrounding environment changes, as long as their variety does not change, the flowers they produce are the same. Clivias are not necessarily like that. Even plants transplanted from the same parent plant will grow differently. So what signs appear before it blooms?

I. Blooming time

Usually from January to February you can see a vigorous, spirited clivia. Spring and summer are when its flowers open. Of course, if you care for it well, it can even bloom all year round. Even if the weather is unbearably cold, it may still open. Its blooming period is limited. If you want to enjoy its beauty for longer, you can think of ways to extend the blooming period: before the buds are about to open, place it in a dark area, water it a little, and keep the temperature at 8 to 12°C; this way it can extend the bloom by at least ten days or more.

II. Signs before blooming

1. If your clivia has been growing well all along, but suddenly the newly emerging leaf buds grow very slowly, with no obvious change for more than 10 days in a row, then this situation very likely means it is about to bloom.

2. If one day the clivia grows a pair of glossy green leaves, and these two leaves are very thick and fleshy, you can judge from this that its flower scape will also appear very soon.

3. If a very conspicuous groove appears on your clivia's leaf, which is what professionals call the scape channel, then your flower will soon bloom. This groove is the leaf making way for the flower. As long as this situation appears, your clivia is definitely a good variety that will bloom.

III. Points to note

Of course, don't celebrate too early. The signs above only show that your clivia can bloom; whether it actually succeeds still depends on your careful care. Be sure to pay attention to these aspects before it blooms.

1. Light: from May to September every year, place it where the sun cannot shine directly on it; you can build a shade frame for it.

2. Temperature: be sure to keep it at 15 to 25°C. There must be air movement, and mist it frequently to maintain humidity.

3. Soil: change the soil for it on time, so that nutrients can be absorbed better.
