What is the current state of walnut cultivation in China? An article explains it for you
Walnut cultivation area rapidly expanding, production greatly increasing
China is the world's largest walnut producer and an important exporter, with the main producing provinces including Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang and Shaanxi. At present, China's walnut cultivation area has greatly increased on the basis of about 667,000 hectares in 2000, with annual production rising from 340,200 tons in 2002 to 436,900 tons in 2004.

More famous and superior varieties, remarkable results in regionalized and intensive cultivation
At present, China has successfully bred many new walnut varieties, such as Luguang, Jinlong No. 1, Zhonglin No. 1, Liaohe No. 1, etc. New tree species and varieties such as black walnut and American pecan have been introduced from abroad, further enriching walnut resources and playing a positive role in variety renewal.
In terms of cultivation and management techniques, the vast number of walnut workers in China have actively carried out fine management and intensive operations, achieving remarkable results. Many intensive high-yield cultivation orchards have increased production by more than 10 times compared with ordinary orchards under traditional cultivation, thus showing that China's walnut production has enormous potential. To obtain economic benefits from walnut production, regionalized and large-scale production must be carried out. In recent years, large-area regionalized production by province and county has appeared in China. In 1999, a total of 88 counties (cities, districts) nationwide were named "Hometown of China's Famous, Special and Excellent Economic Forests" by the State Forestry Administration. On September 12, 2001, the State Forestry Administration decided to name 132 counties (cities, districts), including Huairou County in Beijing, as the second batch of "Hometown of China's Famous, Special and Excellent Economic Forests."
Walnut production has gradually become a new growth point in China's rural economic development
Facts show that walnuts have become an important source of rural economy in many parts of China, and many typical counties (cities) that have shaken off poverty and become prosperous by developing walnuts have emerged. Walnuts have become a new leading industry promoting economic development in mountainous areas.
