What is the difference between Little Red Cloak and Little Blue Cloak?

Just from the names of these two plants, you get the feeling of a pair of fraternal twins. They both belong to the Crassulaceae family of succulents, and are a type within the Echeveria genus. So where exactly do they differ? Is it really just a difference in color, as their names suggest? Let's take a look together.

I. Form

Little Red Cloak: The arrangement of its leaves is very similar to that of a lotus rosette, and the leaves are ovate, but they are not exactly plump - rather, they are somewhat on the flat side, and the left and right sides of the leaves in particular are noticeably flattened. The very tip of each leaf has a small triangular point. The leaf's original color is pale green.

Little Blue Cloak: Its leaves grow in a whorled arrangement, and they are plumper and thicker than those of Little Red Cloak. The sides of its leaves are not flattened, but the two sides of the leaves bear sparse, relatively long fuzz, and the very tip of each leaf is also slightly pointed, with longer fuzz on it as well.

II. Leaves

Little Red Cloak: The leaf's original color is pale green. When there is plenty of sunlight and a suitable temperature difference, the leaf margins and the small triangular tips turn red.

Little Blue Cloak: The leaf's original color is a lusterless emerald green, darker in tone, with some powdery substance on the surface.

Their only shared trait is that, under ample sunlight, the tips of their leaves both turn red. But the red of Little Red Cloak is brighter and more translucent, while the red of Little Blue Cloak is more like a dark red.

III. Price and Ornamental Appeal

On the market today, the price of Little Red Cloak is higher than that of Little Blue Cloak, and Little Red Cloak's ornamental appeal is greater than Little Blue Cloak's. Little Red Cloak overall gives people a feeling that is relatively fresh, elegant, lively and cute, while Little Blue Cloak overall gives people a somewhat dull feeling.

IV. Difficulty of Care

Many experienced succulent growers sum up their experience this way: caring for Little Red Cloak in summer is more difficult than caring for Little Blue Cloak.
