What Are the Pig Mating Methods and Techniques? Read This One Article to Understand
(1) Single mating means mating the sow only once with a boar after she comes into estrus. As long as one has rich experience, single mating can achieve conception and pregnancy. If experience is insufficient, especially for those learning mating techniques for the first time, it is best not to use single mating.
(2) Repeat mating means mating twice with a boar during the sow's estrus period. Specifically, the first mating is carried out on the second or third day of estrus, and the second mating is carried out 8-12 hours later. For young sows, mate once in the morning and mate again the next morning; for multiparous sows, mate once on the morning of the second day after estrus; mate once in the afternoon. With repeat mating, the conception rate can generally reach 85%.

(3) Double mating At 18-24 hours after estrus, mate with two boars of different breeds, with the two matings 10-15 minutes apart. Breeding farms do not use double mating; this mating method is only used in commercial pig farms.
(4) Multiple mating: after the sow comes into estrus, mate continuously with a boar 3 times, the first time 12 hours after estrus, the second time 24 hours after estrus, and the third time 36 hours after estrus. The breeding boar can be one boar or multiple boars.
Among the above 4 mating methods, the commonly used one is repeat mating. At present, factory pig farms all use this mating method, and the effect is very good.
There are two mating methods: natural mating and artificial insemination. Most large pig farms in China use natural mating, and some also implement a combination of natural mating and artificial insemination. That is, the first time is natural mating (natural mating), and the second time is artificial insemination. No matter which method is used, it is very important for a pig farm to regularly check semen quality.
