Tea is a long-standing culture in China, and many regions have tea plantations. Chinese tea is world-renowned; West Lake Longjing, Huangshan Maofeng, Tieguanyin, Biluochun, Xinyang Maojian and others are among China's top ten famous teas. If you want to obtain tea, you can grow tea trees. So how many tea tree varieties do you know about? Let's learn about them together below.

I. Common Tea Tree Varieties

1. Green tea. Green tea is tea made without fermentation, retaining the natural substances of the fresh leaves. It also contains relatively high amounts of nutrients such as tea polyphenols, catechins, chlorophyll, caffeine, amino acids and vitamins, and can resist aging, prevent and inhibit cancer, and sterilize and reduce inflammation. Famous green tea varieties include Biluochun, Xinyang Maojian, West Lake Longjing, Huangshan Maofeng, Lushan Yunwu tea and Lu'an Guapian.

2. White tea. White tea refers to tea that, after picking, is not subjected to fixing or rolling and is directly sun-dried or dried over a slow fire. Tea made this way has quality characteristics such as complete buds with fine hairs, fresh and clear downy fragrance, and a clear yellow-green liquor color. Common varieties include Baihao Yinzhen, White Peony, Gongmei, Shoumei, new-process white tea, and Shouri Ya.

3. Golden Bud tea. Golden Bud is a new yellow-system mutant green tea variety that is sensitive to light. Because the variety is scarce, cultivation is difficult and management and protection costs are high, it is praised by the industry as the "giant panda among teas." The most distinctive feature of Golden Bud is that it is yellow throughout all four seasons, and its liquor color is bright yellow; it gets its name because its price is as high as gold.

4. Black tea. Black tea is a fermented tea, made by picking fresh new tea tree buds and then refining them through a series of processes such as withering, rolling (cutting), fermentation and drying. Famous Chinese black tea varieties include Rizhao black tea, Qihong, Zhaoping Hong, Huohong, Dianhong and Yuehong.

5. Rougui tea. Rougui tea is a famous variety among Wuyi rock teas, also known as Yugui. Rougui's taste is sweet with a hint of astringency, and its aroma is sharp and pungent, similar to the cinnamon in spices, which is why it is called Rougui. Rougui tea is neat and curled, with a brownish-green luster, and after brewing it has an aroma like cream, flowers and fruit, and cinnamon bark.

6. Dahongpao tea. Dahongpao is produced in Wuyi Mountain, Fujian. Its strips are neat and uniform, its color is fresh and moist green-brown, and after brewing it appears deep orange-yellow, with the leaf center light green tinged with yellow. Its taste has the mellow sweetness of black tea and the fresh fragrance of green tea, and the flavor becomes more mellow the longer it is kept.

7. Tieguanyin tea. Tieguanyin belongs to the oolong tea category and is one of China's top ten famous teas. After brewing, Tieguanyin has a natural orchid fragrance, a pure and strong flavor, and a rich, lasting aroma, and has the reputation of "fragrance remaining after seven infusions." It has effects such as resisting aging, resisting arteriosclerosis, preventing and treating diabetes, weight loss and fitness, preventing and treating dental caries, clearing heat and reducing internal heat, and counteracting smoke and sobering one up.
