Fertilizer is an indispensable nutrient substance for growing crops. It provides essential guarantees for crops, including soil fertility, mineral elements and so on. These nutrients can effectively improve crop yield and quality and ensure the normal growth of crops. There are quite a few commonly used fertilizers on the market now, and the following types are relatively common. Let's take a look together!

1. Nitrogen fertilizer

Increasing the application of nitrogen fertilizer can promote the formation of protein and chlorophyll, make the leaf color dark green, increase leaf area, promote carbon assimilation, and help increase yield and improve quality. The nitrogen fertilizers often used in production include:

Ammonium sulfate (sulfate of ammonia): white or light brown crystals. Contains 20%-21% nitrogen, is easily soluble in water, has low hygroscopicity, and is convenient to store and use. Ammonium sulfate is an acidic fertilizer, and long-term use will increase soil acidity. It is best used as a topdressing; generally, farmer friends can apply 15-20 kg per mu.

Ammonium bicarbonate (bicarbonate of ammonia): white fine crystals, contains 17% nitrogen, has a strong pungent odor, is easily soluble in water, easily absorbed by crops, and easily decomposes and volatilizes. It can be used as a base fertilizer or topdressing. When used as topdressing, it should be buried and covered with soil in time to avoid ammonia volatilization burning the seedlings.

Urea: white round granules, with a nitrogen content of 46%. Urea does not release its fertilizer effect as quickly as ammonium sulfate, so when used as topdressing it should be applied a few days earlier than ammonium sulfate. Urea is the solid nitrogen fertilizer with the highest nitrogen content. Urea is a neutral fertilizer and contains no secondary components. Its greatest advantage is that it will not destroy soil structure.

2. Phosphate fertilizer

The role of phosphate fertilizer is to promote faster growth of the root system and aboveground parts, promote flower bud differentiation, make fruits mature earlier, and improve fruit quality.

The phosphate fertilizers commonly used in production include:

Superphosphate: a grayish-white or light gray powder, contains 12%-18% P2O5, has hygroscopicity and corrosiveness, and after being applied to soil is easily fixed by the soil, reducing fertilizer efficiency. It can be used as a base fertilizer and topdressing. When applying it, it is best to apply it in a concentrated way or mix it with organic fertilizer to improve fertilizer efficiency. It can also be used as a foliar topdressing so that crops can absorb it directly.

Triple superphosphate (triple superphosphate): contains about 45% P2O5 and is a high-efficiency phosphate fertilizer. The effective method of applying triple superphosphate is the same as that for superphosphate. Because triple superphosphate has a high content of effective components, the amount used should be relatively reduced.

3. Potassium fertilizer

The role of potassium fertilizer is to promote the formation of starch and sugar in crop fruits, enhance crop stress resistance and disease resistance, and also improve crop absorption and utilization of nitrogen.

The potassium fertilizers commonly used in production include:

Potassium chloride: a quick-acting potassium fertilizer easily soluble in water, contains about 60% K2O, and appears as white, light yellow, or purplish-red crystals. It has good physical properties and can be used as a base fertilizer and topdressing. When applying potassium chloride on acidic soil, it should be combined with lime and organic fertilizer.

Potassium sulfate: white crystals, soluble in water, contains about 50%-52% K2O. Besides being used as a base fertilizer and topdressing, it can also be used as a foliar topdressing, and the concentration for foliar topdressing should preferably be 0.2%.

4. Compound fertilizer

Compound fertilizer refers to a chemical fertilizer whose composition simultaneously contains the three elements nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, or contains only any two of these elements. It has the advantages of high nutrient content, few secondary components, uniform nutrient release, stable and long-lasting fertilizer effect, and being convenient to store and apply.

Ammonium phosphate: a nitrogen-phosphorus compound fertilizer mainly based on phosphorus, contains 12%-18% nitrogen and 46%-56% P205, is suitable for various crops and many kinds of soil, and is most suitable for band application as a base fertilizer, with 7-10 kg applied per mu, or 25-30 kg per mu as a base fertilizer.

Nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer: contains about 10% each of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, and is light brown granules. Nitrogen and potassium are both water-soluble, and part of the phosphorus is water-soluble. It is mainly used as a base fertilizer, with 25-30 kg applied per mu.

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate: contains 24% P2O5 and 21% K2O, is white and easily soluble in water, and is generally used for cucumber soilless seedling cultivation and soilless cultivation production. Because the price is relatively high, it is mostly used for foliar topdressing in large-scale production.

At this point, the introduction to fertilizer types ends here. Farmer friends should know that during crop growth, the rational application of fertilizer can more quickly improve crop growth speed and yield, so I hope this article is helpful to everyone.
