1. Yanshu 25
Yanshu 25 was developed by the Yantai Academy of Agricultural Sciences through crossbreeding technology and passed national appraisal and Shandong provincial approval in March 2012. It is a new edible-type variety with high quality, high yield and good disease resistance. Yanshu 25 is a fresh-eating type sweet potato, with an average yield of about 3,500 jin per mu. It has a fragrant, glutinous, delicate texture and high sweetness, making it ideal for roasting.
2. Sushu No. 8
Sushu No. 8 was bred by the Nanjing Regional Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Jiangsu Province. Through conventional breeding, using "Sushu No. 4" as the female parent and "Sushu No. 1" as the male parent, a red-skinned, red-fleshed edible variety was selected from the hybrid offspring. Sushu No. 8 has smooth, purplish-red skin, orange-red flesh, and a fine texture with a sweet taste. Fresh tuber yield reaches over 5,000 kg.
3. Guangshu 87
Guangshu 87 is one of the most popular leading varieties in Guangdong Province. Its starch content is 19.75%. When steamed, it has a mealy, fragrant taste with a strong sweet potato aroma and good mouthfeel. This variety passed provincial variety approval in 2006 and was demonstrated and promoted throughout the province. According to statistics from the provincial seed management station, the applied area across the province reached 1.695 million mu from 2015 to 2017.
4. Xinxiang
Xinxiang is a new sweet potato variety bred by the Institute of Crops and Nuclear Technology Utilization of the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, using Zhe 127 as the female parent and obtaining seeds through mass hybridization. This variety has relatively uniform tuber size, purplish-red skin and yellow flesh, and a high marketable rate. It has a relatively mealy and sweet taste, especially with a delicate texture and good palatability. In the 2006 Zhejiang provincial variety comparison trial, the average fresh tuber yield per mu was 2,061.4 kg, a 6.0% increase over the control Xushu 18.
5. Pushu 32
Pushu No. 32 is a new sweet potato variety bred by the Puning Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The tuber shape is broad and attractive at the bottom, the tuber body is smooth, the skin is bright red, and the flesh is orange-red. This variety is relatively storage-tolerant, and after storage the tubers easily "return sugar," becoming refreshingly sweet and tasty after that. In the autumn 2010 provincial regional trial, fresh tuber yield was 34.91 tonnes per hectare, a 32.50% increase over the control variety Guangshu 111.
