How to grow Lobelia in pots? These care methods you need to master

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Lobelia grows to a height of about 12 cm to 20 cm. Its flowering period can be controlled artificially, and it takes only about 65 days from sowing to blooming. It comes in many flower colors and is often used to decorate flower beds or hang along city roadsides. Below we will discuss how to grow it in pots.

1. Preparation

Try to choose unglazed ceramic pots with good breathability. As a reference for fellow gardening friends regarding pot size: a pot with a diameter of 10 cm to 15 cm can hold about 2 to 3 plants; for the soil, also choose sandy soil with good drainage and sufficient nutrients.

2. Timing for potting

As long as the temperature can be kept between 12°C and 15°C, potting can be done at any time. If planted from January to March, it will bloom around July; if planted from August to October, it will bloom around the beginning of the following year.

3. Potting method

① Scatter the seeds evenly over the surface of the potting soil. No covering is needed on top, and no watering is needed either, but the soil should be slightly moist before sowing. Then keep the temperature below 22°C, and sprouts will emerge in about 20 days.

② If the temperature is relatively low, you can wrap it completely with plastic film, and when the daytime temperature is higher, open it to let in some air.

③ When the sprouts have grown to about 4 cm, you can thin them out or transplant them, selecting the weaker-growing and smaller seedlings to pull out; at the same time, also remove the weeds.

④ At this point, simply keep the temperature between 15°C and 18°C. After planting in place, water about once every 7 to 10 days, and during the growing period you can fertilize once every 7 days.

⑤ If you want it to bloom with abundant flowers, vivid colors, and large, full blossoms, then the temperature must be kept within 15°C.
