Kelp can be said to be one of the more common foods on the dining table. It not only has a unique taste, but also enjoys the reputation of being a "longevity vegetable," and it is very rich in nutritional value. Eating kelp regularly is also greatly beneficial to the body. At present, artificial kelp farming is carried out in coastal areas of China such as Zhejiang, Fujian, Shandong and Guangdong, so do you know where the most delicious kelp comes from? Let's take a look.

One, "Hometown of Chinese Kelp" - Lianjiang County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province

Lianjiang is the earliest county in Fujian Province to trial-cultivate kelp after its southward relocation. In the late 1950s, kelp seedlings introduced from the north were successfully trial-cultivated using raft culture in the Chang'ao sea area of Xiaocheng Town, Lianjiang County. After more than 50 years of cultivation practice, the farming scale has grown from 2,000 mu at the beginning to more than 340,000 mu today.

In 2016, Lianjiang's kelp output was 213,000 tons, accounting for 56.71% of Fuzhou's kelp output. In 2013, Lianjiang kelp was selected into the first batch of Fujian's top ten fishery brands, in 2016 it was rated as the "Most Influential Regional Public Brand of Aquatic Products," and it was awarded the title of "Hometown of Chinese Kelp" by the China Algae Industry Association.

Two, "Hometown of Chinese Kelp" - Xiapu County, Ningde City, Fujian Province

It has China's most beautiful tidal flat scenery, with a tidal flat area of more than 690 sq km, while its winding and stretching coastline is more than 400 km long. With such superior natural conditions, the success of Xiapu kelp was inevitable. In 2008, the whole county cultivated 62,600 mu of kelp, with an output of more than 160,500 tons; there were more than 230 kelp processing plants, processing 44,000 tons of kelp products, with a total output value of 963 million yuan for kelp products.

It is reported that Xiapu kelp blades are long and narrow in a ribbon shape, olive-brown in color and full of luster, with a length between 1.5 and 2 m and a thickness between 1 and 4 mm. The dried product is dark brown, soft in texture, easy to soften when steamed or boiled, and smooth, slippery and refreshing to the taste. Such high-quality kelp also led to Xiapu County being awarded the title of "Hometown of Chinese Kelp" by the China Aquatic Products Processing and Marketing Alliance on June 5, 2009.

Three, "Hometown of Chinese Kelp" - Rongcheng City, Weihai City, Shandong Province

Rongcheng City has linked capes and bays, scattered reefs, and vast shallow sea and tidal flat areas. It has 150,000 mu of tidal flats and 2 million mu of shallow sea area within the 20-meter isobath, and its climate and environment are extremely suitable for kelp farming. Its kelp farming area and output both rank first among China's county-level cities, with output accounting for about 80% of Shandong Province and 50% of the country, making it a veritable "Hometown of Chinese Kelp." Rongcheng kelp has also become a geographical indication trademark of China.

In addition to large-scale kelp farming bases, when it comes to food, Rongcheng people's development of kelp is even more unique. Many products in the Haizhibao series of kelp products are the first of their kind in China, such as patented kelp noodles, which, because of their high calcium content and low sugar content, have become a star representative of kelp products and are especially suitable for children and the elderly.

The above is the charm of the three major "Hometowns of Chinese Kelp." I wonder which place's kelp everyone likes to eat? You are welcome to leave comments for discussion.
