In rural areas, most farmers grow quite a few kinds ofvegetables, and I wonder whether any of you have grown the cut-and-come-again squash. It is a variety of our country'spumpkin and can be cut and eaten as you go. So how do you select seeds for the cut-and-come-again squash? What are the seedling-raising methods? Next, the editor will tell you!

1. How do you select seeds for the cut-and-come-again squash?

To grow high-quality cut-and-come-again squash, you need to strictly control seed quality, so you must select seeds: before sowing, first sort the seeds, and it is best to use seeds harvested in the current year. The longer seeds are stored, the lower their germination rate. Choose plump seeds with no damage or deformity. Choose seeds free of pests and diseases so that you can grow ideal seedlings! Do not be tempted by cheap prices and buy inferior seeds. Competition is fierce now, and some merchants quote prices below cost, so they can only cut corners on quality.

2. What are the seedling-raising methods for the cut-and-come-again squash?

1. Seed soaking and germination

The cut-and-come-again squash is generally direct-sown in the open field, but to bring it to market earlier, seedling transplanting can also be used. Before soaking the seeds, sun them for 2-3 hours, then scald them in 55°C hot water for 2 minutes. Stir constantly while scalding, and after the water temperature drops, change to clean water and soak for 8-10 hours. During this time, scoop them out and rinse once, then change to clean water and soak again, then place them in a 28°C constant-temperature chamber to germinate before sowing.

2. Prepare nutrient soil

For raising cut-and-come-again squash seedlings, the nutrient soil mixing ratio is 5 parts fertile, pest-free garden soil, 3 parts fully decomposed compost, and 2 parts fine sand or peat, mixed thoroughly and evenly. Add 100 grams of Lüheng No. 3 and 100 grams of trichlorfon per 1 cubic meter, cover with plastic film, and pile and smother for 2 days. After filling the pots, arrange them neatly and water thoroughly. Place 1 germinated seed flat in each pot and cover with 0.8 cm of fine soil.

3. Seedling-stage management

Cover the cut-and-come-again squash seedbed with plastic film to keep warm and moist. Before emergence, the temperature should preferably be kept at 25-30°C. After emergence, remove the film according to the air temperature, with daytime temperatures of 25-30°C and nighttime temperatures of 16-18°C. If the temperature is still low after emergence, replace the film with a new one with good light transmission. When the daytime temperature meets the requirement, remove the film to let in light, or open both ends for ventilation, and cover it again when the nighttime temperature is low.

4. Disease prevention at the seedling stage

When the cut-and-come-again squash seedlings grow true leaves, spray with 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate plus 0.05% dichlorvos, once every five days. When the seedlings grow three true leaves, the spray concentration can be appropriately increased, and add 75% chlorothalonil wettable powder at 1000 times dilution to prevent and control anthracnose and root rot. After 2 true leaves, the covering can be removed. When the seedlings have 3 leaves and 1 heart, they can be planted out.
