Grapes are a kind of fruit we eat often. In recent years, as market prices have kept rising, more and more fruit growers in various places have been planting grapes. But when growing grapes, the most important thing is raising seedlings. So how do you select grape seeds? What seedling-raising methods are there? Now let's take a look together with the editor.

1. How do you select grape seeds?

Choose excellent grape seeds that are large and uniform, bright in color, with crisp and fine flesh, no cracked fruit, no shattering, rich aroma, strong adaptability, disease resistance and high yield, and suitable for storage and transport, preferably virus-free seeds.

2. What seedling-raising methods are there for grapes?

1. Nursery site selection

Choose a sandy soil with convenient transportation, close to a water source, flat terrain, sheltered from the wind and facing the sun, easy drainage, and deep soil layers. The soil pH value is 6.5-7.5.

2. Treatment before cuttings

Generally, when grapes in the field begin to sprout, we can prepare for cutting propagation. Take out the stored cuttings and cut them into sections according to 2-3 buds, with a length of about 15cm. After cutting, soak the cuttings in water for 24 hours to ensure sufficient moisture and help survival.

3. Promoting sprouting

This step is key. Direct cutting makes rooting relatively difficult and the survival rate lower, so you need to first soak them in a rooting powder solution. With the base of the cutting facing downward, soak it in a 1 in 10,000 rooting powder solution for 2 hours, with a soaking depth of 3cm, or use a 1 in 1,000 rooting powder solution for a quick dip. Note that the top of the cutting must not touch the medicine, otherwise it will inhibit growth.

4. Cutting

After all the previous preparation work is done, you can wait to make the cuttings. Generally, when the surface temperature is 15°C, around late April, make ridges running east-west, with a ridge width of 30cm and a ridge spacing of 50cm. Insert 2 rows per ridge, with a plant spacing of 10-15cm. Keep the top bud facing upward, and after inserting, irrigate thoroughly once.

5. Management after cutting

After cutting, water thoroughly once. Generally, about 20 days later, the buds will all emerge. Keep one healthy shoot per plant to ensure concentrated nutrients and promote growth.

The above is an introduction to grapes. There are many techniques for raising grape seedlings, broadly divided into sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction. Sexual reproduction is growing plants from seeds, while asexual reproduction is propagating through vegetative organs such as cuttings, grafting and layering. Grape seedling raising generally uses the asexual cutting method.
