Everyone knows that fruit brings many benefits to the body when eaten, so we can normally buy more fruit to eat. There are quite a lot of fruit types on the market now, and I do not know whether everyone has eaten avocado; it can not only be eaten as a vegetable, but also as a fruit, and its nutritional value is very high. So how are avocado seeds selected? What are the seedling-raising methods? Friends who want to grow them can read the following text!

1. How to select avocado seeds?

Avocado seeds are mostly purchased from neighboring countries Vietnam or Myanmar, and there is basically no selectivity in seed variety and quality. Avocado seeds can be selected from the following aspects:

1. Seed size

Seed size refers to the amount of nutrients directly available during the period when the seed germinates and grows into a seedling. Large seeds contain more nutrients, and after planting, the buds are strong, the stalks are thick, and the seedlings are good, so they can be grafted earlier and leave the nursery faster.

2. Removal of the seed coat

Avocado seeds are wrapped in a waxy seed coat, which needs to be removed. This helps the seed kernel absorb water and shortens the sprouting time. For those that are difficult to peel, the pulp and debris attached to the outside of the seed coat must be cleaned thoroughly.

3. Seed classification

Seeds should be distinguished according to size and quality. By size: this facilitates later lifting of seedlings and bagging, as well as separate management of strong and weak seedlings; by quality: seeds damaged during harvesting and transportation, and seeds that are not rotting, should be classified separately for germination promotion to avoid possible disease infection.

2. Seedling-raising methods for avocado seeds

1. Buy fresh avocado seeds

First, buying fresh avocado seeds is the primary condition for successful seedling raising. According to statistics, intact avocado seeds freshly peeled and left at room temperature for one day have a germination rate above 95%; after 2 days, the germination rate drops to 92%; on the third day, about 90%; from 4-7 days, the germination rate is basically around 85. Under normal circumstances, the quality of the seed storage conditions determines the germination rate.

2. Raising seedlings in fine sand

After washing the peel clean, drain the water in a cool environment. The fine sand must be river sand, sprayed with 1000-fold thiophanate to disinfect the sand, or sprayed with 500-fold diluted carbendazim to prevent virus invasion. In the early stage, the sand moisture content must not exceed 50%. It must be spread evenly on breathable ground at a thickness of 15 cm, and the seeds buried in the sand pile, leaving 5 cm at the bottom, with the protruding part covered with sand. Many people online ask about soaking seeds in gibberellin to promote germination. The reason gibberellin is used here is mainly that when used well the effect is very good, but when used in excess it inhibits seed germination.

3. Preventing pests and diseases

The shade rate in the avocado seedling area is controlled at about 60%, and a 3-pin shade net can be used. Under normal circumstances, roots basically grow in 5 to 10 days of seedling raising. At this time, the root stem has still not emerged from the ground, and only one disease needs attention, while pest prevention also needs attention. Damping-off is the disease most likely to appear in seedling raising, and this disease can be prevented. After the sprouts are 5 cm from the ground, spraying treatment is needed. The chemicals can be 50% meimailing wettable powder 600-fold solution, or 5% jinggangmycin aqueous solution 1000-fold plus 70% thiophanate-methyl 1000-fold solution, or mixed with a rooting agent containing humic acid and sprayed together. Keep the sand moisture at 50%, spray with water once a day, and do not flood-irrigate. Crickets also do considerable harm to seedlings. For this situation, chlorpyrifos can be sprayed to effectively prevent crickets from biting off branches. After the seedlings become lignified, no prevention is needed. When they grow to about 10 cm, they can be transplanted into nutrient cups. The soil in the nutrient cups must be disinfected in advance to do good prevention work.

I do not know whether everyone has eaten this fruit, avocado. Its edible value is unusually high, so those who can should also buy it to eat, and it would be even better if they can grow it themselves. When selecting seeds, you can choose from the above aspects, and when raising seedlings, referring to some of the methods above is also good.
