A Detailed Guide to Where to Buy Veronica Seeds and How to Grow Seedlings
Veronica is a fresh, delicate flower available in blue, white and pink. It grows wild throughout China, and because of its good medicinal and ornamental value, it is cultivated in many regions. So if you want to grow veronica, where can you buy the seeds? What are the seedling-growing methods? Let's take a look below.
Where can you buy veronica seeds?
There are actually many channels for buying veronica seeds. You can buy them from flower markets, seed companies and online. If you want to make sure the seed quality is very good, then it is recommended to buy from physical stores, preferably from a local reputable supplier, as the quality will be better guaranteed and it will be easier to approach the seller if there are problems. So choosing the right seller is very important. When buying veronica seeds, be sure to pay attention to seed quality, and do not buy problematic seeds just because they are cheap.
What are the seedling-growing methods for veronica?
1. Seedling raising
The temperature for veronica seeds is 18°C-24°C, and they can sprout in 7-14 days. Keep a relatively low EC value in the substrate, with a pH of 5.8-7.5. The seeds need light to germinate. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of vermiculite and keep the substrate lightly moist, but not too wet. Avoid direct sunlight and provide appropriate shading. From the cotyledon emergence and growth stage onward, the soil moisture needs to be appropriately reduced, but it still must not be too dry, and the temperature should also be lowered to 16°C-18°C. During the true leaf growth and development stage and the hardening-off stage, take care to transplant into pots in good time.
2. Transplanting
3-4 weeks after germination, transplant into flower pots with a diameter of 8-15 cm, or transplant 1-2 seedlings into a 3-5 litre container. After transplanting, keep the plug tray, because some seeds may continue to germinate over the following period. For pot production, make sure the pot size is suitable.
3. Soil
The growing substrate needs good drainage, with a clay content of 15%-30%, and about 20% bark, wood fibre or sand can be added. Cultivation requires fertile, well-drained sandy loam, with a fertiliser standard of 60-80 g of slow-release fertiliser per square metre.
4. Light
It is a long-day plant, so maintain a high light level. Long-day, strong-light conditions can promote plant flowering and flower growth. Supplementary lighting is needed in winter and early spring. Insufficient light will cause the plant stems to become leggy.
5. Temperature
Daytime temperature 12°C-18°C, night temperature 10°C-13°C. Outdoor cultivation in winter requires covering. In spring, plants grown at 15°C-18°C take 6-8 weeks or 8-10 weeks. At cool temperatures of 8°C-13°C, the cultivation time will be extended. Flowering requires vernalisation at 5°C for 10 weeks.
6. Fertiliser
When planting, provide the plants with good nutrients. If necessary, apply slow-release fertiliser in certain positions or use compost soil directly, which helps improve soil quality.
Veronica not only has a cute name, it also looks very cute, especially when in flower. Caring for veronica is actually a very interesting thing to do, so if you like it, hurry up and plant it!
