A Detailed Guide to Sugarcane Seedling Variety Selection and Raising Methods
Sugarcane is a perennial tall solid herbaceous plant; people mainly consume its thick, well-developed rhizome. At present, sugarcane is cultivated in many tropical regions of our country. Sugarcane is sweet and can also be processed into various raw materials. So what varieties of sugarcane seedlings are there?
1. Which sugarcane seedling varieties are good?
Sugarcane is generally divided into fruit cane and sugar cane. Fruit cane is a type of sugarcane for fresh eating. Its characteristics are plenty of juice, clear sweetness, crisp and tender, and refreshing to the taste. Sugar cane is a type of sugarcane whose bagasse can be processed into fiber for spinning and weaving cloth, and can be made into cane boards, paper, and can also be used to refine alcohol, furfural, plastics, etc.

2. Sugarcane seedling raising methods
1. Preparing the seedling bed
To plant sugarcane, choose sandy loam land with convenient drainage and irrigation and sheltered from the wind while facing the sun, and first water the land thoroughly, then deep-plow and open the beds, apply sufficient base fertilizer, and cover it with a thin layer of soil. The bed width and spacing should be decided according to the specific seedling raising method, to make later management easier.
2. Treating the seed buds
When using cane stalks for seedling raising, generally there is no need to cut them during the seedling period; wait until seedlings have grown and need transplanting, then cut them. If during the seedling raising process the cane buds are seriously damaged, the cane stalks should be divided into segments of 2-3 buds, soaked in 2% quicklime water or 50% amobam 400-fold solution, soaked for about 10-14 hours to promote sprouting, and once the sprouts reach the standard they can be transplanted and sown.
3. Transplanting the cane seed
The whole seedlings should first be arranged neatly, with the bud positions laid flat and facing to the side, with the interval between each cane seed at about 2cm. After arranging and placing the cane seeds neatly, to prevent rolling, the two ends can be fixed with wet soil, then spray with 1% lime water and cover with a layer of fine soil about 2cm thick.
4. Regulating temperature and controlling water
During the seedling raising period, sugarcane needs a temperature of about 20-30°C. If it is higher than 35°C, cooling treatment is needed, such as uncovering the film or sprinkling water. If the temperature is lower than 15°C, keep it warm in time, and on cold nights cover with a layer of straw curtains. During the germination period of the cane seeds, keep the soil moist and water in time according to the soil moisture. If the moisture content of the cane stalk is lower than 50%, it will affect the germination rate of the cane stalk.
5. Cutting the stalks and transplanting
When the cane seedlings grow to the 3-5 leaf stage, start lifting the seedlings and cutting the stalks. If you want to obtain high yield, wait until the cane seedlings have tillered at 6-7 leaves before cutting the stalks and transplanting.
In summary, that is all for today. The sugarcane seedling raising method above is only one of them; there are other seedling raising methods, and those who like it can continue to follow the updates.
