What Are the Top Ten Most Valuable Parrot Species? A Detailed Introduction
There are many species of parrots, colorful and diverse, and most importantly, some parrots can even imitate human speech, which makes them very popular. But with so many parrot species, do you know which breeds are the valuable ones? Below, the editor will give you a rundown of the top ten most valuable parrots.
1. Blue-throated Macaw
It is one of the most beautifully colored and largest parrots, with a featherless face covered in stripes, somewhat like the painted face makeup in Peking opera, an extremely long tail, bright blue-green wings and tail, and a blue throat. It is a very precious and rare parrot.
2. Scarlet Macaw
The Scarlet Macaw has the most abundant and brilliant feather colors among the macaws. Its appearance is somewhat similar to the Green-winged Macaw, but the difference is that the Scarlet Macaw has bright yellow feathers on its wings, while the Green-winged Macaw does not have bright yellow feathers on its wings. It is a very valuable parrot breed, with no more than 500 in China.
3. Palm Cockatoo
Its entire body is black, with a visible red spot on top of its head. Its face is bare, similar to a macaw, so it is also called the coconut macaw. The current price is in the tens of thousands, and it is also rarely seen, with only a few people in China keeping them.
4. Red-crowned Cockatoo
Also called the cockatoo, Red-crowned Cockatoo (Red-crowned Bataan), or Gangan Cockatoo. The male bird has a bright red head, with a forward-curving crest on the back of the crown. In young birds, the red feathers on the head are sparse and scattered, and will increase with age. The female bird's head and crest are both grayish brown, with strong pale yellow streaks on the underparts.
5. African Grey Parrot
On the market, the African Grey Parrot includes the Congo African Grey Parrot and the Timneh Grey Parrot. Because of its strong speaking ability, it has become a hot-selling item on the market. An adult grey parrot has an intelligence comparable to that of a seven-year-old child and is good at imitating human speech, so it is widely loved by parrot enthusiasts and is also a relatively valuable parrot breed.
6. Salmon-crested Cockatoo
A cockatoo from Indonesia, slightly larger than the Great Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. Because of its large size and beautiful appearance, it is especially loved by young women. At present, the total number worldwide is about 8,000, and the number in captivity is greater than in the wild.
7. Major Mitchell's Cockatoo
A cockatoo from Australia. Because of its beautiful crest that stands upright like a wheel and its distinctive appearance and color, it is widely loved by wealthy keepers. The total number worldwide should be less than 20,000, and it is one of the most expensive cockatoos among those that can be legally traded and imported.
8. Rainbow Lorikeet
The Rainbow Lorikeet's feather colors are particularly striking, with a colorful feel. This parrot has a relatively short lifespan compared to others, generally only 20 years, and it is very lively in temperament and likes to live in groups. At present, it is relatively common in Australia, Solomon, and Indonesia.
9. Red-breasted Parakeet
The Red-breasted Parakeet has a patch of light pink on its breast, which is how it got its name. Its speaking ability and learning ability are extremely strong, but it is also relatively rare because it is difficult to breed in captivity.
10. Sun Conure
The Sun Conure is a very bright orange color and is mainly distributed in countries and regions such as Brazil, Guyana, and Venezuela. It is an endangered species.
The above is an introduction to the top ten most valuable parrots. Of course, many valuable parrots are from abroad and are rarely seen in China. The prices of these parrots are relatively high.
