Why Are the Leaves of the Money Tree Very Thin? Causes and Solutions
1. Watering Problems
If the money tree is potted, too much watering while the soil does not drain in time will cause water to accumulate in the pot, and over time the roots will rot, nutrients cannot be transported upward, and the leaves lack the necessary nutrients, so naturally the leaves will become thin. When little fairies encounter this situation, it is best to repot it as soon as possible, choosing a shallow pot with many holes to facilitate drainage, and choose soil with good permeability, not sticky mud.
2. Soil Problems
The soil for a potted money tree must be carefully prepared, not only nutritious but also with good water permeability. You can use humus soil such as pine needles and peanut shells mixed with sandy soil. This kind of soil is rich in organic matter, and the sandy soil has very good permeability, which can both meet the nutrient needs and avoid long-term water accumulation, keeping the roots intact and the transport channels unobstructed, so the leaves will grow large and thick, and the problem of thinning leaves will not occur.
3. Temperature Problems
The money tree is a tropical plant and needs relatively high temperatures. If the temperature is too low, it will stop growing, and internally it will no longer produce new nutrients, only consuming the nutrients inside its body. The first nutrients to be consumed will certainly be those in the leaves. With nutrients in the leaves only going out and not coming in, the leaf surface will become thin. At this time, you need to pay attention to keeping it warm, either transplanting it to a warm greenhouse or moving it to a warm heated room, and it will slowly recover.
4. Fertilization Problems
The money tree needs abundant fertilizer, but it must also be applied in the right amount and not too much. Especially in winter, too much fertilizer can also burn the roots, nutrients cannot be delivered, and the leaf surface will become thin. Fertilization should be based on growth needs: for newly sprouted seedlings, apply a small amount of fertilizer; during the vigorous growth period, apply more fertilizer; when the winter temperature is too low, do not fertilize. If the leaf surface is very thin because of excessive fertilization, then you need to change the soil and prepare a mixed soil of some sandy soil, field soil and pine needles, which has both good water permeability and the necessary nutrients, and can slowly alleviate the problem caused by excessive fertilizer.
