Animal epidemics refer to infectious diseases and parasitic diseases of animals. According to the degree of harm that animal epidemics pose to the production of the breeding industry and human health, the animal epidemics managed as stipulated by the Animal Epidemic Prevention Law of the People's Republic of China are divided into the following three classes:

Class I epidemics refer to those that cause serious harm to humans and animals and require emergency, strict compulsory measures for prevention, control and eradication. Class I epidemics include: foot-and-mouth disease, rinderpest, contagious bovine pleuropneumonia, bovine spongiform encephalopathy, peste des petits ruminants, and others.

Class II epidemics refer to those that may cause major economic losses and require strict control, eradication and other measures to prevent spread. These include brucellosis, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, bovine malignant catarrhal fever, bovine leukemia, bovine hemorrhagic septicemia, bovine tuberculosis, bovine piroplasmosis, bovine trypanosomiasis, and others.

Class III epidemics refer to those that are common and frequently occurring, may cause major economic losses, and require control and purification. These include bovine ephemeral fever, bovine mucosal disease, bovine genital campylobacteriosis, trichomoniasis, bovine hypodermosis, and others.
