Is Green Diamond easy to grow? Detailed guide to care precautions
Green Diamond is a shade-tolerant plant and very easy to grow, as long as you keep the temperature a bit higher in winter, do not let it freeze to death, prevent sunscald in summer, and do not water it too much; it does not even matter whether it sees the sun or not, and whether grown in soil or water, it survives very well. Below is an introduction to the cultivation methods and precautions for Green Diamond:
1. High-quality growing medium
A good medium suitable for Green Diamond should have the following characteristics: 1. Balanced water supply, good water retention, but it will not cause root rot due to waterlogging; 2. Good aeration, with sufficient oxygen supplied to the roots; 3. Loose, easy to work with; 4. Rich in nutrients, with relatively low soluble salt content; 5. Free of pests and diseases.
2. Suitable temperature and light
Whether a plant is moved from indoors to outdoors, or from outdoors to indoors, because of the change in light intensity, it needs to be done step by step so it gradually adapts. Under artificially controlled conditions, when light intensity is high, the temperature should be slightly higher; conversely, it should be lowered accordingly.
At a suitable temperature, it is beneficial for the absorption and accumulation of nutrients in Green Diamond, and extremely favorable for growth and flowering. In winter, it can be placed in a sunny spot during the day, and at night it can be placed inside the curtains, or in a position closer to a heat source; in summer, place it on a windowsill on the shady side of the room, or in a cool place, and pay attention to ventilation.
3. Water and fertilizer management
There is no need to water too much, but that does not mean not watering at all; you should water only after the soil has dried out, and water thoroughly. I do not know how long you have had your Green Diamond, but yellowing leaves may be caused by watering too frequently, watering again before the soil has dried out. When fertilizing, it is best to use a dedicated fertilizer; buy some fertilizer already prepared by the manufacturer, especially when it is lacking nitrogen fertilizer.
4. Pruning and repotting
When the branches fill the pot, the plant becomes “top-heavy”, and roots are seen growing out of the drainage holes, pruning and repotting should be carried out.
5. Pest and disease control
Green Diamond has very few pests and diseases. It may not look like it is affected by pests, but in fact it can also be attacked by pests such as red spider mites and scale insects, which can easily cause leaves to yellow and wither or even kill the plant, so attention should be paid to prevention and control.
